1/350 TOS Enterprise "Blasphemer's Edition"

Sorry for the long delay. I have been working on this, mostly experimenting with different aztec patterns that just weren't doing it for me. Also, our dog Bentley got pancreatitis and we had to deal with that for five or six weeks, and then he got cancer and died last week, on July 15. So that absolutely sucked and is still killing my modeling mojo, but I'm pressing through.

I finally figured out a pattern that works for me. For the saucer, I started with Lou Dalmaso's aztec pattern for the 1/350 TOS as the base. Then I added two custom layers of my own. For the rest of the ship I will be doing completely custom masks. I don't really like the Aztec Dummy masks for the rest of the Enterprise. I've done the neck and like the pattern in my paint test. I still have to figure out the secondary hull, pylons, and nacelles, but I have a plan that matches everything else I've done so I won't be fumbling around like I have been.

Anyway, here are some pics.

The Aztec Dummy masks are in yellow. Mine are in blue. The first layer is a dark gray that I blended back closer to the hull color. The second layer is a lighter gray, and the last layer are accents in a very pale blue.

Here's the neck paint test. There are also three paint layers that follow the saucer paint scheme. The test piece shown below wasn't blended back so it's a little more stark and contrasty than the final one will be. I will also carry the color all the way to the upper and lower edges.

I should have more to post soon now that I've finally gotten the masks figured out.

Here's the last pic I have of Bentley. We brought him home from the animal hospital after his cancer diagnosis. He was pretty doped up. We sat with him out on our porch for the rest of the day. We had called Lap of Love (a pet euthanasia service that comes to your house) and scheduled them to come out the following evening, but he died that night a little before midnight. It was very peaceful. He was on the bed between us...and then he wasn't.

I know this isn't a modeling post, but I really miss him. We picked up his ashes today and that opened a whole new world of hurt.

My heart goes out to you. These little guys are much like children. The loss is real.

Bently just reminded me of my priorities. I have been spending a lot of time in the shop, largely ignoring my two elderly dogs. I'm done for a while. Putting things away and spending much more time with the mutts. Thanks for reminding me what's important to spend my time on, Bently! Bless you.
