The Wand Company TOS Tricorder is coming!

Only several hundred thousand people to sift through?

I think what I’ll do…..is get my trusty Star Trek branded Bullhorn and seek the highest point on one of the skyscrapers…and yell out in a high feverish pitch…..”Hey Andrew from The Wand Company…raise your hand if your out there…and stay right there…DONT MOVE!!!”…

Okay I can confirm that it's the bottom of the door and top of the compartment preventing a full 90 degree angle, I had a fiddle to satisfy my beliefs and by pushing it down to see where the resistance was it created a small mark on both parts of the ABS where they come in contact. Mark wiped clear and no scuff damage but at least now I know not to bother with the rod.

ADDITIONALLY... I have also advised Charlotte over at Wand Co that my issue lies with the doors coming into contact, not with the pins or the edges at the rear.

And boy oh boy is it a dead tric scroll too… :)

But I ran into an associate of their’s from last year….she told me that they are around, but there’s no Wand setup this year…perhaps in the future.

She did mention that they were also having meetings but didn’t elaborate. She says they like to use instagram.

She also mentioned that she would tell Andrew when she sees him, that a person who bought 2 Tricorder’s stopped by to say hey..

That’s it….and you can bet your bottom dollars (hundreds spent on problematic trics) that I’m not going to spend time searching for them. If I see em I see em, if not then not.

The woman looking at her device knows the Wand team……she helped last year hosting the Wand pop-up.

Yeah, it looks like at least 3 separate molded parts coming together at one spot. The door itself, a corner piece, and the back (cover) of the door. It looks like they’re glued together, probably by hand, by who knows how many different people on the assembly line. That theory would explain differences from one Tricorder to the next.

And of course zooming in on anything that close will make minor flaws look huge. Just looking at the Tricorder from a reasonable distance and it looks perfect.

I’ve worked in the engineering world long ago ..when I had left the military……

There was a saying, like an inside joke, about poor engineering to get a product out….”Who cares if it works, as long as it looks good”….. As more and more things are found, I’m reminded of that saying…imo.

This reminded me of the last mod that I wanted to do which doesn't even need it to be taken apart.
Using an AK rubber black paint marker I painted the rod so it no longer stands out. Matches the plastic quite well.
