The Wand Company TOS Tricorder is coming!

The new leather strap arrived today (one piece, 5 feet long). It’s very nice quality and feels sturdy, it doesn’t stretch at all like the original strap. The grain is nice, it’s not shiny like the plastic strap, and it drapes nicely.

As we’ve discussed, the 5/8” is slightly narrower but once installed you can’t really tell. I think the 3/4” would be noticeably different. The strap is rolled on one edge and stitched, and the seam is on the opposite edge and stitched. Since there is a seam, you’ll have to decide which edge you want in the front. The thickness is almost exact to the original, but soft material is difficult to measure with calipers. It felt the same feeding it into the slots of the side panels.

Here are some comparison pictures of the two materials and the end result. I feel good about the $32 investment.

I've been asleep at the switch lately because I've been pretty slammed, so where did you order this strap and how much did it run you? I really like what I'm seeing, and a leather punch is pretty cheap at Michael's.

Still waiting for it to ship....
Go into your "Payments" Section (under "Accounts and Lists" - usually near the top right corner of the website), and select the "Transactions" listing near the top of that page. You should see your Tricorder purchase there. And it should list its status. Currently mine is still listed as "Pending" as opposed to "Processing" which is the category it should be in right now. Yours may be in that same situation. Or yours may have moved into the "Processing" category.

As it stands, I just finished speaking with a Supervisor at Amazon (who has more data he can look at than the First Level Customer Service rep - despite the lies those First Levels always tell). Though both CessnaDriver and I were charged the same day (July 15), and his went to shipped the next morning, mine has been stuck in the "pending" category the entire time. That said, the Supervisor states mine has been internally scheduled to ship from a location the next state over from mine with 1-Day shipping via USPS. And it is supposedly scheduled to transfer to USPS July 18th around 15:00 PST. This surprised the Supervisor but we both agreed that I will wait the 24ish hours to see if that holds or not. Hopefully, this is just another example of the crazy logistics we've been suffering through with Amazon all this time.

In hand now finally.
Verifying the moire lighting is OFF or Auto? No way to set a low illumination.
Great that you got yours! Out of curiosity, who did they use to ship it to you? UPS? Fed-Ex? USPS? Amazon's own carrier service? And (if you don't mind) what part of the country are you in? Me - I'm in Southern California.

It came via USPS, with another small item I ordered in the same box.

Mine is stuck on ordered, but nothing was charged.
Yours only says "Ordered" in the "Transactions" listing on the "Payment" page? That sounds wrong - ie IF you are looking at that particular page - then you should at least have reached the "pending" category by now. I would *definitely* call Amazon and speak to a Supervisor (don't let them dissuade you from this). And I would ask why a product that is supposed to be delivered to you by Sunday hasn't even gone through the payment AUTHORIZATION process yet.

Looks like they like USPS for shipping this product. Interesting that another product ended up shipping together from Amazon with it. Curious about when you placed the order. It might have shifted times for when your Tricorder went out their door.

It was $32 delivered. I ordered 5 feet and had to trim a little off the end to make it the same length as the original.

Definitely putting this on the front burner. Turns out my wife already has a couple of awls. Thanks!

Yeah, some chump change 75 ohm cable terminations with two day shipping and Prime may have helped goose the process. Ordered those on July 15th.

Is this the gap left by using 5/8 instead of the original 3/4 (19mm)? We know you didn’t notice the 3/4 offering by the same seller….however we are beyond that now….:)

So what did you mean by this…..”As we’ve discussed, the 5/8” is slightly narrower but once installed you can’t really tell.”….. true that….but you go on to say. “I think the 3/4” would be noticeably different.”…..”noticeably different”… How so?

So is the strap on the Wand tricorder too narrower? I see there is a bit of play, so if we do a run, we could make it a bit wider. Thoughts?
The leatherette strap from wand is the correct size at 19mm 3/4”…..

JiminStLouis decided to get a less wider strap in leather measuring at 5/8” wide..

No the original strap is the correct 3/4" but it's thinner fake leather so JiminSTLouis chose the 5/8" as it might be difficult to put their thicker 3/4" strap through the hole since the hole is exactly 3/4".

I went ahead and ordered the 3/4" earlier today after seeing how well Jim's turned out on Facebook. I'll post comparison pics when I get it in.

Ok, thanks. I'll get to working on some of these and will let you know when they're available!

I managed to grab two tricorders from Amazon UK... from order to arrival: 8 days. Not bad!

Any chance that you could make these accurate straps to the original Tricorder (doubled-over leatherette with double stitching) vs the inaccurate ones that we have been offered for years (non-doubled-over straps with parallel stitching to “simulate” an original strap)?
