The Wand Company TOS Tricorder is coming!

A brief history on Jewelarama otherwise known as Defraction Jewels…..

Jewelarama vintage jewelry Diffraction Jewels

These are still available Used at eBay and Etsy….

If one is not satisfied with the TWC moire for whatever reason…consider getting the correct diameter Jewelarama disc, to fit within the Tricorder moire bezel ring….same as the moire disc diameter….and unmount it from its jewelry setting ….and then glue, double stick tape, temporary adhesion method, etc,,,the disc over onto the moire disc.

Diffraction discs could vary in its reflection…..if buying a jewelarama try to match the reflected pattern that was shown on TV….take into consideration that it reflected off of the set lighting at the studio. So try to match as close as possible to the listing pictures presented on EBay, Etsy. Etc.

You can disable the moire from functioning.

From the manual…..

“setting the moiré position

The moiré rotation position can be adjusted from the Settings screen so that a visual pattern matching the screen-used hero prop can be created. Adjusting the moiré automatically fixes the moiré and sets it to LOCKED. Unlocking the moiré disc, turns rotation back on. To unlock the moiré use the middle jog button to scroll down to highlight MOIRE ROTATION and jog left or right to select AUTOMATIC.

moiré backlight enable/disable

The moire backlight can be disabled or enabled from the settings screen. Use the jog buttons to highlight MOIRE ILLUMINATION and jog right or left to select OFF or AUTOMATIC.”

I was wondering did anyone post a link where to order a new regular or new stitched version of the leather strap?? Thanks.
This one for stitched that was found
I've personally bought a couple of of good pieces of leather from Ebay that are blank and unstitched, some I will leave blank, others I may have stitched.

Hello, first time poster but wanted to tap the hive mind. Does anyone else have an issue with the Moire disk hanging on rotation? Mine consistently stutters at the 2-3 o'clock position and makes a grinding noise around that area. In looking at other photos online, it also appears that my disk's appearence is slightly different - perhaps upside down?

Mine doesn't do that.

It's definitely not supposed to do that. You should contact support@thewandcompany.com and let them know--in all likelihood they'll swap you out. Their customer service is outstanding.

The new leather strap arrived today (one piece, 5 feet long). It’s very nice quality and feels sturdy, it doesn’t stretch at all like the original strap. The grain is nice, it’s not shiny like the plastic strap, and it drapes nicely.

As we’ve discussed, the 5/8” is slightly narrower but once installed you can’t really tell. I think the 3/4” would be noticeably different. The strap is rolled on one edge and stitched, and the seam is on the opposite edge and stitched. Since there is a seam, you’ll have to decide which edge you want in the front. The thickness is almost exact to the original, but soft material is difficult to measure with calipers. It felt the same feeding it into the slots of the side panels.

Here are some comparison pictures of the two materials and the end result. I feel good about the $32 investment.

That looks good!…and if I’m seeing your pics correctly…..you’ve chosen the folded edge facing forward. I would have chosen the same ;)

Hmmm, I’m still going to stick with the roughness of Season 1 leather (1 black finished side and 1 natural color rawhide backside and edges) and at the 3/4 (19mm) size.

Natural leather no matter what color will always look better than leatherette, pleather, pu leather, bonded leather, etc etc. imo. Fake leather will always look like fake leather.

You made a good choice for what you got as long as your happy :)

Yup… personal preference. There are a lot of ways to go.
Very True… :)

Here’s what some people don’t know…..

From the Gooooooog

EXPLORING LEATHERETTE

Leatherette, also known as faux leather or synthetic leather, is a man-made material designed to imitate the look and feel of genuine leather. It is typically made by bonding a fabric base with a layer of polyurethane or PVC, creating a surface that resembles leather. Leatherette has gained popularity due to its affordability, versatility, and animal-friendly nature.

While leatherette offers a similar appearance to leather, it differs in terms of breathability and durability. Unlike leather, leatherette is less breathable, which can make it less comfortable to wear for extended periods, especially in warmer climates. Additionally, leatherette tends to be more susceptible to wear and tear, with the surface layer potentially peeling or cracking over time.

COMPARING DURABILITY

When it comes to the longevity of leather and leatherette, several factors come into play. Genuine leather, particularly full-grain leather, has a reputation for its exceptional durability and ability to withstand the test of time. With proper care and maintenance, leather products can last for decades, developing character and becoming even more appealing as they age.

On the other hand, leatherette, being a synthetic material, may have a shorter lifespan compared to genuine leather. The surface layer of leatherette can deteriorate over time, especially with heavy use and exposure to harsh conditions. However, it is worth noting that the durability of leatherette can vary depending on its quality and the level of care it receives.

Not a clue why Amazon US is so slow to ship. Perhaps they do not have the stock available, but took the order anyway?

Well you can try and buy one tomorrow from Star Trek . com or IGN….if they are not pre-order sales, otherwise you’ll still be waiting.

Then cancel the Amazon order if it’s still cancelable ….

or just consider having two Tricorder’s ….one from Amazon and one from ST.C or IGN….one of them should be faster to ship……m-a-y-b-e..
