The Guyver *Completed*

Re: Guyver *WIP*

I'm really thinking about leaving it metallic shine.... Ever since that first coat I kinda fell in love with how it played with the light and almost makes it look wet. I want to make sure this has the illusion of not being a foam mat...lol. I wouldn't mind trying to go for a legit Guyver but It's not being used for anything but for fun.

Definitely post some pics of your helmet!!!

It really doesn't look like foam mat in the pics you've posted, it could pass as a foam suit from some of the photo's. Still amazed at the detailing work you did on this piece.

I'll post pics up once I'm sorted. Moving house so currently everything is packed away.

Re: Guyver *WIP*

Well...back at it. Started with the arm blades. I put a wire hanger in the middle for support. Glued them together, rotary tooled for the edges, and made the base. I'm going to detail the base and it will be blue. The blades will be black. I decided to make them large....go big or go home....

I have to thank daninboo for his freehand tutorial that is right here. I am a lot more confident in just making templates instead of relying on pepakura...I love the arm blades...

Re: Guyver *WIP*

Damn dude, that is so smooth. I truly need to up my game...makes my build look like pre-school. Can't wait to see it finished...

I'm ready to see it finished too.... I forgot all the little things that I still have to do.
very cool.one of my favorite manga
Thanks!

I made the knees and finished the other foot. It didn't dawn on me that I would have to detail the feet until I looked at the model.... So I ended up just by passing the mod-podge and just texturing it. I am painting all the spare pieces right now.... I don't like waiting...so I'm posting.

The original knees with the set were way too small. I just used one of the thighs to make a template and heat gunned the foam to bend in the shape I wanted. I'll post the painted pictures later.

Re: Guyver *WIP*

I was thinking as the blades glow why not try some vacuum formed frosted blades that light up, that would really give your suit that extra edge.

Re: Guyver *WIP*

Drack- that's an amazing idea! I have those plastic pellets.... I could just sandwich those in between the blades and have the flat square leds in there..... I can shape the plastic and dremel the edge. But I don't know if I will have enough time.... wish you would have thought of that earlier..... :/ freakin sweet it would have been....

Re: Guyver *WIP*

I wish I had been more involved in the design of your build but you were doing such an AMAZING job of it I didn't think to add any ideas. If I lived close to you I would fabricate them for you just so you have them in the build as I am just blown away by how good this build is. I used to pride my self at how much of an influence I was having when I started my foam builds but this is build is way beyond what I could hope to do with foam.

I am currently watching Face Off (the series) while I do my work to inspire me even though its mainly latex/silicone/foam based sculpts but you have achieved what they do with out any sculpting (in the raw sense of the term as we are all sculptors in our own right).

There are so many great foam builds out there but I have only seen 2 that really go that extra mile and yours is one of them. The other is THIS.

Hats off to you man,
Tom.

Re: Guyver *WIP*

Thanks Tom - I can't get over your work and it is really cool for you to say that about what I'm doing... hopefully I can get it all pulled together and mobile. And your techniques were definitely used on this.... :thumbsup I hope it gets the same kind of response in March. I have been camping your Iron Man thread an the helmet is amazing.

And I have been officially geeking out over the arm blades....

Re: Guyver *WIP*

I can see why you have been geeking over them! Those look incredible! Nicely done sir!

Re: Guyver *WIP*

You know what would be cool. After the suit is all finished see if you can find some clear glow in the dark paint and do the blades with it so when it gets dark they light up :)

Or you could even paint them in that translucent UV paint so under black light they suddenly illuminate .... Could even install small black lights at the base of the blades where they attach to the forearm guards then switch them on to force them to glow not sure how effectively it'd work but its an idea...

Re: Guyver *WIP*

Glow in the dark paint also lights up in UV light so you get 2 for the price of one :)
I used to get free permeant UV pens from my local police station and did tattoos at a night club which was filled with UV lights.

Been watching this thread in awe of what is possible with foam. Couldnt agree more with you about those 2 going beyond and yours aswell btw. Builds of wich you say " thats foam?!?!"

That's what gave me the idea I'm a trained tattooist myself been using the stuff lately so its fresh in my mind! lol

You both are unreal.... freaking awesome. What would you think about a thin reflective strip along the edge? I would like it to be apparent without asking the lights or be in a club to be out to show them off...lol
