The Definitive Marvel's Daredevil thread

So if I recall correctly, the lead designer for the Daredevil suit is Ryan Meinerding, who developed the Captain America: TFA suit. So there will probably be some overlaps in technical construction, although I can't say for sure since the suit was made at Bill Hargates Costuming. Correct me if I'm wrong though as theRPF website is loading but my google searches aren't.

Do you guys think that the red parts of the suit are cotton drills made to look like leather? Then screen printed textures made with high density ink?

Hello all!

I recently ordered the Ringers 557. There's only one problem--my Matt gloves aren't matte! The carbon fiber piece across the knuckles has a glossy coat instead of a dull one. Has anyone else experienced this? I ordered from here, and as you can see, the display photo is of the matte gloves: http://aboloxsafety.com/gloves/law-...aw-enforcement-carbon-tactical-glove-stealth/

Most Ringers 557 stock photos are matte, but I did find some glossy ones here and there. It looks like both types are going by the same SKU. First the shirt, now the gloves. :( I'd like to get a screen accurate pair, but if I'm going to be getting the glossy kind no matter where I order from, there's not much point in returning these and trying again somewhere else.

In the meanwhile, I ventured forth to the NYC fabric district in search of mask fabric. The left is the cheap $6/yard stretch mesh I'm going to use for patterning it out. The right is the nicer $9/yard mesh with a bit more body to it. If anyone else is interested, I think this is the store's online listing for it: http://www.spandexhouse.com/products.php?navId=98&navId2=102&navName=Mesh/Net (See Through)

"Applications: Cycling Apparel, Tri-Athlon, Wrestling, Pageant Wear, Cheerleading and all types of Active Wear."

Heh.

There are two types of the 557 - the variant you want is "stealth." They have the matte knuckles:

I dyed two pairs of the accurate G-star pants today, one sage (olive green) and one dune (tan). I used two bottles of liquid black RIT dye in a lobster pot with salt water heated over a hot plate. The sage came out perfect - black pants, black zipper backings, black thread! The tan pair will need some permanent black ink to finish the job. The material looks great, but the stitching is still lighter and the zipper backings only turned a dark grey/green. I'll get some pics of each.

This thread has given me some good ideas for my own Daredevil cosplay. Though I have a slightly different snag I am hitting...I am a woman. Trying to find a compression top that has the proper look has been harder than one would think. (Women's tops are either short sleeved, more brightly colored, or have hearts and flowers on them). And I am of a slim enough build that try to get a men's top would not fit me well. I am trying to find something that has the red pipping on it.

So the question...does anyone know of a good place I could look to find a women's top. I am in no real rush for this as the con I will be doing this for is next year, I just like getting my cosplays put together well before I need them.

I found a site with some black compression shirts that are full sleeve for women, but they don't have any with the red piping. I think you may have to end up adding that part. Here is the link. I hope this helped, I would love to see the cosplay when you finish!

McDavid, the same company that makes the production used shirts, offers womens' variants of the same shirts.

Here's where I'm at
Still need to make the arm guards, get rid of the logo, make the holster, and if I can afford it get better boots and pants.

Thanks for the link Cap. It should help. It's better than some of the other things I have been able to find on my own.

As I said, my con is still a long way off (April). But I will def put up some pictures once I have them. First thing I want to make is my mask so I can get use to moving around with obscured vision. Planning on sewing on some black mesh over where my eyes will be. Should allow me to see well enough to walk around the con, while still hiding my eyes.

Glad I could help. And I know what you mean about the mask, I'm still working that out myself. Good luck with the build!

Also, has anyone thought much on how to make his billy clubs? I would not be able to use actual wooden one due to con rules. I want to shy away from PVC pipe since PVC pipe always looks like PVC pipe. Maybe foam sticks or toy nun-chucks with a bit of paint? Also can anyone recall if his clubs are wood-colored or black in the show?

I already know how I am going to do the holder for the clubs. Cardboard box covered with black vinyl and cargo belts to strap it onto me. Might even try to see if I can add a pouch to it to hold my money and ID.

I can at least vouch for the quality of that esty dealer. She does amazing work. Got my friend her Captain America jacket last year, and it looks great. She also do custom work so it is sure to fit if you send in your measurements, and it was shipped extremely quickly. We got the package in time for Christmas. :)

It's a custom made head-to-toe leather suit! $500 seems a bit low for just materials and labor...
But it's synthetic from China the most you pay for an arrow costume ( saying arrow because it's a full leather suit allso) is £150 around $300. Anyway hopefully cosplaysky will have something better to show us
