Limited Run Star Wars - Jedi training remote SFX aluminium box base

you guys are too nice! thank you

so yes, for the interest period, i might need to be a bit clearer seing Halliwax's video, yes, i'm keeping this open until Monday morning here, first thing Monday, I order the materials and get started. So people that are interested, there are a bit more than 2 days left to get on it. And remember, i need firm commitment, i'm funding everything myself as always and this is a second batch of a very obscure prop, so I can't have people backing out after the facts, thank you :)

I'm sorry for the people that have been waiting 2 weeks already. I want to say, lucky timing in the end with the video because that covid crap really took a toll on me and I couldn't work all week, I'm going crazy here not able to work! I hope i'll be back on my feet on Monday! thank you for your patience.

Interest is now closed for this project. Production of second batch will start.
Estimate for release date of this batch is around 20th of November.
cheers all

All materials ordered for the second batch.
second batch will be 12 boxes.

I still have the material on hand for the aluminium turned part, so I can start on those while I wait for the delivery or the rest.
I'm still a bit sick and hoping it doesn't get worse anyday as well, but i hope I'll be able to really start working on this in the next few days.

cheers all!

Sorry to be late to the rounds of applause. I'm going to be that dummie who starts clapping a couple seconds after everyone stops.

I received my box about a week ago. Like everyone else, my hat is trully tipped in respect to Matthieu. Extraordinary craftsmanship on this one. I'm am deeply grateful for your focus and effort stuffed into this kit and very much appreciative of the whole buying/communication experience. TOP.NOTCH!!!

Hello there,
first bit of progress on batch 2 :)

Hey there,
the day started with what I thought was good progress. I was making the brass parts for the top ball bearing assemblies. The thing is, after making 10 out of 12, I realized there was a problem and the brass tube at the top was too short...
It's difficult to explain what happened, I changed the assembly technique for the second run as the first batch was annoying and used glue, and, I don't like glue. But there was an error in my plan as I read my 3D model wrong for some reason. So they ended up too short!
This happens when doing runs... when you make a mistake, you make the same mistake on many parts, and of course, you always realize when you are almost done. It is part of the job, it is annoying and it's a loss of time and money for me, but it is what it is. Just need to fix it and move forward.

so, left part is too short, right part is corrected:

I needed to fix this as I was not going to give you guys innaccurate parts. But those parts are heat and pressure fit, so they are not going to come appart. Additionally, I needed to find a solution with what material I had left on hand. I had some extra 9mm brass stock, so I made thin sleeves to go around the existing tubing and make it longer.

3 on top are correct, 2 of those were the last two to do, so I cut some proper length material and made them correct right away, the 3rd one is the fix test that worked. Now I need to fix the 9 left with the 9 sleeves I made at the bottom.

for this, I put the assembly into the lathe again and I turn down the tube from 9mm diameter to 8mm until the sleeve almost fits:

then, I apply a good amount of heat to the thin sleeve and pressure fit it to the assembly with the mill vice (in progress here):

The result is an invisible fix and assembly, the only visible remnant of the fix is inside (on the right):

anyways, this will be completely invisible for you guys and the parts perfectly accurate, I just wanted to explain the issue and fix.
Overall, just a few hours lost for me and a 17cm extra length of 9mm brass stock used. Was just a bit disheartening when i realized the mistake, but that's ok now :)
cheers all

Hi guys. Is the RS921-3A a difficult part to find? What’s everyone else using as an alternative?
the exact version might be difficult to find. However, there are a lot of other ref numbers that are a match in shape and look, so that is probably your best bet. I just type kearfott on ebay and browse through everything.
