Spider-Man: No Way Home

One weird thought about the Multiverse before I go to bed. Mysterio said he was from Earth-833, and that the MCU was Earth-616. Wouldn't everyone who discovered the Multiverse call their own world Earth-1? Who's deciding the numbers?
One of the many reasons I stopped reading the books non of it made sense to me

I was heavily into comics most of my life, even workcomic book store for 15 years, 10 of those years as a manager.. buying and selling, wheeling and dealing.. comics was a big part of my life for a long time

when marvel introduce the multiverse and 616 earth stuff.. it totally through me out of it

this whole multiverse thing I feel is nothing more then a excuse to write what ever they want and have zero consequence… you can kill who ever you want.. but it’s old because that character can live in a different book because that’s a different universe

this is just me but i feel like it really devalues characters and makes for lazy writing and with lazy writing comes stupid stories.. and really really bad decisions…

when they teased the multiverse in the last film I was like thank god, he was just lying.. but now it looks like it’s really going this way..

Idk.. I hate being a negative nelly.. but I didn’t like it in the books.. don’t think I’ll like it here either.. but I could be wrong
I'm with you on the aspect the multi-verse can turn into a hot mess story telling wise and is often an excuse for lazy writing. That being said I'm down with checking this out, it looks like a fun couple of hours. I don't have much interest in following any of the various "franchise" style multi media stories but this could be a good "what if" story.... canon, shmanon ...

If your world finds out about the multiverse from a visiting traveler from another Earth, then you would almost certainly use the numbering system already in place. And if his world didn't discover multiversal travel independently either then his Earth wouldn't be Earth 1 either. If you do figure out multiversal travel on your own and discover everyone else is already using a numbering system then you would switch to that one. (So Earth 1 is the world of the first multiverse traveler).

For an example on how to do it wrong, The Earth of "The Flash" TV show comes to the multiverse party late, yet they are still Earth 1 somehow.

That said, since Mysterio madeup the whole multiverse backstory, then his particular numbers are just an easter egg, and not indicative of the "actual" universe number.

I have read that. Most movies I watch, I either like the whole movie, or like parts. But I have hard time taking the time to sit for 2 hours.
As it was said before in this thread, New Rockstars, ScreenCrush and Heavy Spoilers are great youtube channels to catch breakdowns and easter eggs, 25mins of videos can explain all the important parts of 2hr movies

I cant wait. I'm very interested in seeing Doc Ock as I've been a very big fan of that design for a very long time. Already I can see that the arms are different in a lot of ways so I wonder how that's going to play out for all those that make and sell 3d files of these things.
