Started some test prints of the MGC replica. So far so good..

So this pic has always puzzled me. I’m sure it’s been discussed somewhere along the lines here on theRPF but the fact that there are two blasters in this photo I was curious as to which was which? This picture is from the Norway location shooting of Empire when production first began. Two blasters clearly made there way to Finse and both are seen here. Luke must has the Hoth blaster in his holster as Solo clearly has the Dagobah (Stunt) blaster in his. The tell is the sights casted location on Solo’s. Maybe it’s old news to some but I just noticed this detail now..
How you’re able to discern these things is always most impressive.
Here’s some more progress pics on the MGC replica. These are obviously real MGC grips (still have to design the replica grips) to see how it lines up. Thats also an old resin printed Hoth FH not an FDM printed one. Parts still need to be reworked a bit but again it’s coming along nicely..

Would you be at all willing to take and post a screenshot from your slicer? I'm super curious as to the print orientation, especially on the main frame parts.

That pic is without the added supports that are needed but if u look at the files itself I do design supports into it was well. That gives it a great head start.
Getting the MGC trigger done up for FDM is a bit of a challenge. MJF I can do a pretty much exact replica (including the spring) but that’s next to impossible for FDM I’ve found. But I do think this works and looks pretty good..

Okay, yeah, I can see how that works. Not at all how I'd have thought of doing it - but I suppose that's how the resin lads arrange their prints, innit? And it would probably mitigate a lot of layer strength issues, at the cost of having to design explicitly for that orientation.
I'd be nervous about that on an A1, though - high speed bedslinger and topheavy print seems like a risky combination.

Vagabond Elf I’m tempted to get that A1 to be honest. If it can print PLA anything like this P1S can.. can’t beat it for the price.
As far as print orientation goes it took a lot of trial and error but general rule of thumb is 45 degrees is always a good place to start. If u have the ability to add supports into the file itself that also helps tremendously.

Model looks fantastic! You really have ticked all the MGC boxes.
Thank pal. I do have to make some changes but the goal is for it to simply look the part. It’s definitely a fun project.
Getting the grips sorted. I’ve already reworked them once more since this. Coming out nice..
Pretty much done. Just need to add the groves onto the grips..
Final stretch with the FDM MGC…
Now onto the fun part. Assembly!
Just need to design up some screws and then Han’s MGC Endor blaster is pretty much finished. Looking forward to seeing how this one prints..
Got the screws all in place. The coolest part about designing anything up in CAD is you get to look at it from every angle on your computer. This is pretty much (IMHO anyways) an exact replica of Solo’s Endor blaster. Damn this is fun!
