pretty sure they are dreads. the full pic is done in the style of a Japanese ink drawing. i cropped out the rest of it. visit his DA site which i linked in the first post to see the full pic.
Yes, I actually looked at the artist site that you got this from yesterday. He is very talented. If they are dreads I think that would add a very unique look. I have never seen a pred with his hair/dreads pulled up like that before but I like it.
Well, after a little research (and quite a few threads on the subject...throat clearing sounds) I figured out what 'topknot' means...sorry for being so dense...I am learning.
here's my question ... the "hairline" of the dreads in the pic would be incorrect as the dreads ridge the crown ..and there are none at the forehead ..so how would they be pulled over the crown as depicted in the drawing

yeah ,well the artist isn't a pred head like us and his art is more expresive then realistic. there is no way that that many dreads could be tied up and the back still look good too.
well i was thinking more along the lines that there are no way to get that many dreads to lie flat directly over the crown if there are none originating at the forehead
ohhhhhhhhhhh....... i see what you mean. i never thought the black grooves on top of the dome were dreads. i guess cause i know pred anatomy pretty good. i always assumed it was just part of the bio.. kinda like boar and brother boar have something different going on with their domes.
i will sculpt this like a normal bio. but the dome will have the longitudinal tubes just like in the drawing.
OK, I'm super slow with this sorry. here's a bit more. had to lower the eyebrows and make the eyes narrower. looks angrier now instead of sad.
i reshaped the nose about a 1000 times.
Are those supposed to be dredlocks sprouting from behind the brow of the helmet? To me, they don't easily "read" as dredlocks; but maybe more of a decorative, soft - fabric like - decoration? Maybe?
Also, I'm loving the progress on the sculpture so far!!
