Limited Run SIGN UP CLOSED. PRODUCTION BEGINNING! Dewy and Anakin Starkiller's Obi-wan Episode 1 saber sign up!

Awesome idea, I’ve also been thinking about using it to cast a stunt version for myself like starkillers, with a threaded rod to put an aluminum tube blade on like the prop. Anyone know how they attached the aluminum blades to the threaded rod?

Chromed run, chromed run, chromed run!!!!! And yes, that is correct
Gregatron!! Who all would be down for a chromed AOTC version???? Sorry Dewy, might be more work ahead for you and Dan as far as doing them in brass then chromed for the next run I'm down

It's really difficult to get quality resin castings with chrome plating. I've worked with a number of shops that promise the world and deliver crap.

Just look at any of the remaining chrome hilts from the film. 5 years later and all the chrome has flaked off and the resin is drooping and bending all over the place

Sorry, I feel like I need to clarify sense I didn’t get a response, do you not want me to cast a stunt version for just myself (I guess I won’t if you don’t want me to, I don’t want you to not send me mine) for some reason or did you misunderstand my comment thinking I intended to try and sell them?

If you guys did an AOTC run, it would definitely have to be made brass and then chrome plated. As you have experienced, resin turns to crap over the years lol.

I am also interested in this idea. This is why I’ve never gotten an AOTC variant. No one it seems has done a run with the chrome plated resin since I’ve been looking.
KR has done a beauty in their Knight OWK2, not screen accurate but a beauty of a prop.

The originals only have to look good for filming, chrome plating for a resin collectable that lasts is a lot harder

And that brings us into the abstract discussion of just how far to go when replicating a prop. Do you go idealized, or do you go warts and all, right down to the fact that that props are only made to look good on camera, and aren’t made to last?

As we’ve seen with the TPM saber, the emitter washer went askew at some point, and I applaud Dewy and Starkiller for giving their replica the option to depict it both ways.

Looking forward to getting the payment request on these, but while we're taking about chromed resin, does anyone know what they did for the MR Obi-Wan AotC? I bought one second-hand a few years ago and it's much heavier than all my other sabers and feels completely solid. Did they chrome resin?

It’s heavier because it’s chrome plated brass. The TPM Elite Edition is stainless steel, and some other hilts are aluminum. The Anakin AOTC is also extremely heavy for the same reason.

When I was 9 or 10, my dad redbutton and a family friend took me to the hardware store and we made the Obi Wan TPM design from Lightsaber from the Big Yellow Box. We had to section pipe and cut the windows so it gave me a very innate understanding of this props construction.

I’m so excited to come full circle with this run.

Also, want to add, as someone learning how to mold and cast - please never take a “run” saber and mold it. These are designed ground up by a fellow prop replica maker.

I tried to cast a saber once (it’s really hard) and I scanned my rack of lightsabers to see which ones were okay. I tried one I made from scratch, and then one made of all found parts. I failed, but learned a lot.

It’s been reported to me that at first they took sabers and threw them on the lathe and epoxied in the rods. Eventually, it seems they inserted the rods before pouring the resin. I’m not sure how they kept it hovering in the mold without plopping to the bottom

A small update. On my prototype, the o-ring from the shop has begun to dry out. So, I ordered some new top quality o-rings that Dewy recommended "The secret with O-rings, (at least the best I've found so far) is to make sure the material is "Buna-N". These are by far the most durable O-rings and what we use on rocket engines." :)
I'm going to include one of these Buna-N o-rings with every saber, so you'll have a more durable option that should last longer.
When they arrive, I'll package everything up and we should be good to go.

Once again, we're pretty damn lucky to have a guy who works on rocket engines on this project with us. Thanks a lot, Drew!
