Ryan Gosling 'K' - Blade Runner 2049!

BELSTAFF TRIALMASTER LEGEND JACKET - I AM LEGEND 18.JPG

Wow! That's a great looking coat! A big shout out to your tailor too, I think he really nailed it.

Despite the expense, sourcing the material, agonizing over details, I'm sure you can sense the satisfaction in bringing to life what's essentially a unique coat. Whenever I've been asked by someone where they can purchase 'my' coat I just sigh and tell them it's a one off.

I'm really over the moon to see -for the first time- how that shifting the SR collar actually works as well as the crazy idea of sourcing shearling from a teddy woman's coat. The piping also looks very smart, and to quote The Dude, it' really ties the coat together.

Whenever you get a chance, I'd love to see some more photos of the long part of the collar tucked behind the lapel as we see on the prop display and most of the movie stills.

Anyway, congrats again!
Forgive the crappy bathroom mirror pic, but hopefully it's high-res enough to see the collar clip in. The magnet works, but due to the stiffness of the material, it's not a super secure connection. The left side of the collar has a tendency to come detached since the magnets are only so strong. The tailor and I actually considered shortening and refinishing the edge of the collar, but the concern was it became too tight across the face when the collar was worn up. Again, we fall into different coat territory--in some of the film stills, Gosling's collar, when closed, seems like it might be an inch or two longer than the front lapel, even though they seem to be flush when he wears it open.

Maybe I didn't express myself correctly... I'm really talking about folding back the long side of the collar correctly, meaning the way the coat is worn during practically all of the movie (and on this prop display as well).

*The coat's left lapel (on the long side) should be open all the way, laying flat, with the collar tucked behind it but still running along the entire length of the top of the lapel*

Despite this, hardly anyone sporting their coats on the forum (not even Soul Revolver's model, in fact) has the collar or left lapel positioned correctly in this regard. Getting this right is pretty key IMO in terms of SA.

It looks there should be two magnets in the long side of the collar, at the top and the bottom, which connect to two magnets in the lapel. The collar appears to always stay fully attached to the lapel and doesn't flap around.

When it's not attached at the bottom you end up with something like this:

That's exactly right. But the top magnet only really works/connects if the collar in question is totally flush with the corner of the lapel. The collar for my custom spec coat and the custom SR extends past the lapel slightly. Having said that, the bottom magnets do connect. Nevertheless, in my experience, the collar stays tucked behind the lapel quite nicely even without being held by the mangnets.

To be clear, you're talking about this, right? FYI, it works with the longer collar, in the loosest sense. The top magnet helps clip it into place. You can see a bit of puckering occurring, and it's from the longer collar not being flush, and thus the collar pillowing out a little against the body. The magnet along the top of my collar and the body are reverse polarity, but even then, because of the collar length difference, this look really only works if one magnet is holding it in place. You can see that nice little crease along the collar, and that's a direct result of the softer shearling. The stock stuff was too stiff to pull this off.

Looks impressive. Is there some reason you don't

And apologies for the endless posts--so had I known this (or been thinking of it), I would have had my tailor install the body magnet adjacent to the collar a solid inch higher. Mechanismo is right here, and with the longer collar you really only get this look if you have the collar magnet and body magnet able to join at the bottom, and leave the top of the collar unclipped, as it were.

Unfortunately my magnets are already pre-installed :/ Even if I had those two on the body moved, labor aside, I'm afraid the stitch holes would be egregious.

All that having been said, my dime store solution (and this is helpful for anyone with the SR coat who makes the same mistake I did)--there's an inside jacket pocket on the left side of the coat under the lapel. I simply stuck another magnet in there and let it float. I'll take it out if/when I ever wear the coat fully closed, but for a MacGyver style solve, it works, and I'm feeling kind of accomplished, given that realizing the magnet alignment didn't work had me antsy initially.

Sharing this for anyone who might want it. Ebay currently has an aster sweater up, item number 194914349516 . It's an XS and it's in grey, but if you can fit it, and you're looking to emulate K's style, it's a nice find. Who knows, maybe you could dye it black, although the spandex portions would make me iffy on that.

In the interim, as I continue work on K's outfit, I'm considering attempting Joi's as a passion project. I found the exact boots they modified (not sure if anyone has identified those yet) but am struggling with the skirt. Also no idea what K wore as an undershirt for his sweater.

For people who don't wear a XS size, there are plenty of YouTube vids with "How to stretch a sweater" with a few simple steps.
If done right, you could increase the size by at least 2 inches (body, waist and sleeves).;)

hi everyone

just an update. My SoulRevolver was done but then johncarbon1991 's pictures came in and they were amazing. so we decided to go back and replicate his tailor's work on the piping and the buckram (Mechanismo has been saying this for a long time). So we're putting in piping and buckram. This has taken a long time, my apologies for the delay, but Ive been dealing with knee surgery and recovery which has slowed things down drastically. Hoping to get this done in the next few weeks and share pictures with you all. Pleased to see Zlurpo's team make so much progress but disappointed that the laminated cotton material is so difficult to source, it seems. One day perhaps.

It's probably a ridiculous thought, but has anyone considered making a custom clothing tag for their K coat? I sort of hate the giant Soul Revolver tag on the inside of mine, especially given how much modification has been made at this point (I almost don't want to give them the credit haha). What would the inside tag on K's jacket say? "LAPD"? "Wallace Corpation"? Some combination thereof? I've found a site that does custom clothing tags. It would be simple enough to make, but not sure if any members of this thread are graphically talented enough or inclined to make a visual mockup.

I think it would be cool if it's a company from the 80's, like they used Atari. Maybe one the went out of business? Depending on what you're looking for I might be able to make a design.

I think there are a few different options, with a Wallace logo being maybe the most basic and visually striking, given the black/orange contrast.

That said, I sort of imagine the in-universe tag as looking similar to this. This was a display plaque from victory for heroes on etsy, intended to display with a blaster. Silver text, matte black background, lots of serial numbers with an lapd logo tossed in there. I always sort of imagined the coat was issued to K standard issue, same as his blaster or his badge--presumably there are other replicant officers running around with the same coat, which would make sense, given how many similar variations of Deckard's coat we've seen officers wearing in the recent Blade Runner 2019 and Blade Runner Origins comic book series. Honestly, the ID badge logo and text wouldn't be half bad either (image sourced from redbubble).

For what it's worth, I found this website that can make sample clothing labels:

Full disclosure, I have zero idea what the quality is--but, the only cost is shipping for a run of 5-10. mtortori65 , if you or anyone else here felt confident enough to mockup a couple graphics, I'd be happy to pull the trigger on these and test the quality. You should already have the soul revolver tag measurements (I can dig my measuring tape out to measure if I need to) but this site also does custom sizing if someone wanted a tag for, say, their big effects coat or their white sheep leather one.
