Rocketeer Cirrus X3- The Veepy Build

Both of you are correct. I don't know how I didn't notice that. I have cancelled my order and put in for the correct size.

I have a small update, I was able to spot putty all the inconsistencies.

I've also been researching on how to achieve the stainless steel look. The rocket has that brushed look to it. I found this video and sorta like the end result. I'll do some tests before painting the rocket.

Thanks for the vid. Interesting way of achieving that brush alu look. Other tricks also: scouring pads (different "bites" and experimenting with them) will also do the trick.

I ended up buying 1,000 of the rivets (The ones recommended in the download) so if someone else is doing a build let me know I can save ya some cash and sell ya the 400 you need.

I ordered the correct sized rivets and they should be here today or tomorrow hopefully. I spoke to a rep at Hanson Rivet and told him what I was doing. I was able to email him pictures and told the dimensions provided by gnolivos and he said he had the perfect one that will match. It cost $20 and he said I would have over the 320 needed. This was a revit that was not listed on the website. Once I receive them I'll post pictures and the part number. I'll have extras too just not sure how many.

Also made some progress with sanding and painting the little parts. I've been going a bit slow as work has picked up for me but also I like taking the time in sanding and filling. I don't want print lines on the final product.

Great! Let us know how well the rivets work. If they are a good match and cheaper then I will update the documentation. Thanks!

I ordered the rivets recommended by Ginolivos in his veepy files and they are perfect, and omg just this row took forever to put in not looking forward to dropping 300 of these lol.

Glad you like them. I dimensioned everything based on those rivets. Every detail counts. Nice work so far! Keep us posted on progress.
Sure I don't post much on RPF but you can follow the build on C&R Prop Works

Also, the care and effort you took on the model really shows. I'll be building it over time and I'm waiting for a buddy to print the resin parts I need. Still need to print the engine and stuff but it's so well done man thanks again.

Also, MTB not trying to mess up your build thread so if you want me to delete my posts I will. Thanks for sharing your build.

No worries at all! I'm glad everyone comments and shows their work.

Small update:

The sent me the wrong rivets. The sizes were way smaller! I called and they are sending the correct ones out for free. I will update when I get them

I did manage to get the engines primed. I didn't clean them up as much as the rest of the rocket because I'm going to weather them up a lot so it will hide all of the print flaws.

I had 2 failed prints on the new hull so I took a break. My printer just need to be recalibrated. I just haven't had time to do so. I will get it all dialed in soon here.

thanks for the updates,

i will wait until you have the correct rivets (part numbers) before ordering. i hope they ship international.

i too had a failed print on the main hull but it was something up with the sunlu filament clogging, out of 3 rolls i've only managed to use 1.5 rolls
not gonna risk anymore fails with it.

i don't even have anywhere to prep my parts, it's freezing outside.

This is how you add the rivets, use one of those shop screw pickup magnets dip in glue puddle, bob smith if your classy and shove in hole and slide. Works perfectly and many times you snag a rivet and it will land perfect letting you move pretty quick. I did a row of 20 as a test at about 5 seconds per.

I had a similar issue with a different brand. It caused so many problems I had to replace my whole hot end.

I now only use Overture or Hatchbox now as I've never had a problem with both. Overture was on sale so I have used that for the whole print so far. Their website has a $10 off and 2 rolls are $40.99 free shipping. You cant go wrong with 2 rolls for $30.99 shipped!
