revision of Indiana Jones Lost Journal

How did you print these inserts? I want to start the project but have no idea how to create these authentic inserts.
some of my inserts were authentic pieces found at online auctions like ebay (eg my WWI field service card - you can find them unused). Others were printed via laser printer on various types of paper. If printed on plain white paper they were mostly aged using tea baths. You will need to experiment. If using tea baths I found strong tea in a shallow container worked well. If you want to deepen the effect do multiple baths for the same document. You can use concentrated to tea with a paint brush to get effects on the edge of paper. Experiment. Look at old documents.

I also went and bough a bunch of nibed pens to write with. If you can do running writing it will help.

I was able to find the Buddha bookmark (5 x 12.8cm, with bright red silk (?) ribbon) and Asakusa postcard (14 x 9cm) from the episode board that indydiary51 found. I actually got original copies of each that showed up on ebay but thought I would share the photos here so anyone can recreate if they want.

What are the dimensions of these?

This is the Pancho Villa photo from the board.

meine Tagebuchseite vom 29.6.1914
29. Juni 1914.

COMMUNITY GUIDELINES
POINT #2

M. Official Language. While our communities welcome people of all language, English is the official language of our communities because it is the common language between our staff and members. Because we cannot moderate conversations in a foreign language, you may not hold a public conversation in a language other than English.

june 29, 1914. Today I read in the newspapers about the assassination of Austria's heir to the throne, Franz Ferdinand, and his wife. My thoughts are with Sophie. It must be incredibly difficult for her to have lost both parents. I know firsthand what it's like to lose a mother. It was devastating for me. I still wear the amulet she gave me back then. While there's now a new picture inside it that she sent recently, the memories of those times have never faded from my heart. I must admit, she looks simply beautiful in this photo. The amulet has somehow become a talisman for me. I'm unsure if I'll ever see Sophie again, especially now, given the times that lie ahead. War looms over us.

It has been a long process, but I have been carefully deciphering the screenshots of the original journal used in the Young Indiana Jones TV series. I got started on this because of the work of indydiary51 and I cannot take credit for all the work done, which I will note where appropriate. However, since almost all of this is my own work, and because it is pulled off the show itself, I feel comfortable sharing it. If anyone feels something shouldn’t have been shared, please just let me know. Some of this material may be repetitious but I wanted to put them all in one place, however I will not be reposting pages for which I have nothing to add. So, in chronological order from the start of the journal I have: (unless otherwise noted, all pages are from the Pancho Villa wagon scene where Indy flips through the journal. I have not scoured the series for other possible screenshots to help deciphering)

  • Hieroglyphics Spread (supposed position, drawing from DVD case)
  • King and Sandal Spread
  • Sarcophagus and Boat Spread
  • Paris Spread 1 (implied by text of following spread)
  • Paris Spread 2
  • Charles Church Spread
  • Aramaic and Adriatic map spread
  • Kenya Map (supposed position, drawing from DVD case)
  • Lion Spread
  • Camp Spread (supposed position, pages from this forum)
  • Rhino and Giraffe spread
  • Camel and Massai Woman Spread (supposed position, pages from this forum)
  • Babbab Tree Spread (supposed position, only tree page obtained, from this forum)
  • African Continent Map Spread
I have more pages I have placed between some of these, but they are from other sources and not original to the show, making them outside this scope of this discussion. I also removed any drawings that were not my own, since they’re not mine to share and since the point of this is to share deciphered text, not provide ready to print pages

1. Hieroglyphics Spread

Taken from the DVD case and cleaned up. I finished off all the cutoff hieroglyphics off of actual hieroglyphic symbols. However, since I don’t know what they were drawn off of, I have no idea if my filled in symbols are right

2. King and Sandal Spread

The King page of this spread has been shared previously and expertly deciphered. I simply copied that for my own though the original text is from “Old Testament and Ancient Egypt Teacher's Manual” by Laurie Detweiler from 2004. The sandal spread was carefully deciphered of the attached blurry photos by me. I couldn’t decipher the end of the text that starts “An old piece..” since it looks like it is cut off from the copying process. I therefore filled in the tomb of Ay and Tey since it was discovered a couple years before Indy is supposed to be in Egypt. I also did the drawing myself to make sure the insect was shown.

3. Sarcophagus and Boat Spread

I am reasonably confident on all text present but was totally unable to decipher the text in the upper left corner. If anyone can, please let me know. I filled that and the area to the right of the sarcophagus with invented text in my own page

4. Paris Spread 1 (implied by text of following spread)

Will be invented based on source mentioned below

5. Paris Spread 2

I was able to decipher bits of the text from screenshots and after lots of googling found that it’s from “The Human Interest Library: Old world travelogues” from 1921, page 411 specifically. I was then able to fill in the remaining text based off the shape of the blurry words and got the first page filled in with my best guess. The second page is much more difficult as it is much more blurry. If anyone here can sharpen it I may be able to find the rest of the text either in the same book or elsewhere.

6. Charles Church Spread

The text for this was found by indydiary51 and can be found earlier in this forum

7. Aramaic and Adriatic map spread

The Adriatic map is pulled from the dvd case and quite legible. The Aramaic page is another story. Again lots of googling of scraps and legible fragments turned up that the text is from “Alphabet: A Key To The History Of Mankind” by David Diringer, from 1948. The Aramaic letters above are from page 256. The first half of the text below it comes from page 260 while the second half comes from 255. In all cases text is paraphrased. I could not read anything above the Aramaic and invented text to fit with the narrative and pulled from the same book.

8. Kenya Map (supposed position, drawing from DVD case)

Drawing was corrected from the DVD case with the help of indydiary51. Place names were carefully collected from a map of Kenya from 1909.

9. Lion Spread

Another really difficult one. For the first page I have the attached since I was able to find that the original text "to england rested and" was from “The Book of Knowledge: The Children's Encyclopedia, Volume 1” by Arthur Mee, Holland Thompson from 1911 and is about Dr. Livingstone. I was able to decipher it up to “the shining Indian Ocean” though that was a bit of a guess, then made up the rest. If anyone is able to decipher more I would really appreciate it! For the second page I am really stumped. I have the following fragments:
xxx xxx was
made of xxx xxx
xxx. I went to
free as he made a
his friends
going

I am at the point where I will make something up on this one but if anyone can decipher it any better I would be happy to search around to see if it’s from a book, though anything I have written here might be wrong

10. Camp Spread

I have nothing to add to this page. I am including it here for a suggested page order.

11. Rhino and Giraffe Spread

I have nothing to add to the giraffe so I didn’t include it here. The rhino I was able to decipher the text from screenshots

12. Camel and Massai Woman Spread

I have nothing to add to this page. I am including it here for a suggested page order.

13. Babbab Tree

I have nothing to add to this page. I mention it here since right now it is a page without a mate and I wanted to ask if anyone knew what page should pair with it?
