Repainting a MPC Millennium Falcon ***FINISHED*** with tons of pictures

For the gun turrets, which are tricky because they are small and very fragile.
So using the straw from a can of air, primed white, then put through the hole, it took about half the primer off.
There like what, maybe a mm on each side showing, so easily paintable later on.

So my thought, was to try and make it more sturdy, I would run this safety pin through the straw into the plastic of the two little arms. Not sure what they are even called.
I first heated up the pointy end and melted through. It worked...at first.
Trying to line it all up, the one arm broke off. Not the first time these have broken.
One had been broken for years and years with the gun itself put away, and I'm glad I was able to actually find it for this whole redoing.

Glued it back on, pin still through the one end. Going to wait til its very dry and study again.
So this one will be the bottom one.

This one here will be the top. Its the more crooked one, so I made the hole more at an angle to correct it, but it won't hold its position really well, so it works better for the top.
I also didn't bother trying to add the safety pin through it.

These things are pretty small.
Even though the part of the 5 footer is bigger, its still probably the reason that the piece is missing, as I figure it probably broke off. Something like that.

Got most of the top all weathered in.
I'll get the the bottom done, then sides.
And then once that all seems good, I'll get the radar dish and guns glued on.
With the lack of space, this has mostly been on my lap, and I know I'd break off the guns or dish otherwise.
(Looking at this pic on the phone, on my screen here, looking a bit more orange and yellowish then in person. I'll have to get some outside pics again.)

Penny wanted to pose with it.

And for the guns, got them to work out alright.
So once glued on, then I'll match the weathering.
The one pointed up is posable, but it ended up working out slightly different that what I had in mind, but it works, with the metal saftey pin through the straw, so I'm going to not mess with that anymore or I'll end up breaking it again......most likely.

Yep it is looking very impressive doing a great job on the paint got me looking over at mine might need a bit of relooking maight be a later project ane yours is top notch keep it going

The more I work on this Falcon, the more I notice what is wrong. But thats just the MPC way.
So this shirt here. I've had it for years.
I'm brushing my teeth and happen to notice in the mirror just how wrong the design is.
The thick sidewalls with minimal overhang. Almost wondering if the artist based it off the MPC.
But theres the cockpit, which looks more like a WW2 B-29 Superfortress' cockpit. (Although ILM probably copied that anyways, just with their own style)

Wanted to see how the good camera would look taking a picture. Olympus OM-D. The thing has like 600 modes to chose from. Automatic looks blah, so trying to find a good mode was still tricky. At least for inside, a mode that washes out the colors, then adjusting it more in photoshop, as far as my monitor, this is as close as I could get the picture to how it looks in person.
So not done yet, but getting there.
(You can see the plastic on the carpet, very bottom of pic, the guys redoing the kitchen out down, now over 4 months ago. This kitchen project is taken forever. Word of advise to anyone reading this. If your sink leaks and causes water damage, whatever company tears out the bad stuff, DO NOT have them be the ones to redo the new install. 5 stars for the tear out.....1 star for the rebuild.)

Yes you are dirting it up just rite not to much but just perfect I really am loveing your build or should I say rebuild it looking Great

Got a bunch more done, mainly now the side docking rings.
Since this model has smooth sides and scribing the lines in just didn't work, and I didn't really try to add styrene panels to make it, I decided on just painting the lines in, to look like it was scribed.
Using the best reference pics I could find, along with Sean's perfect replica, did my best.
Mainly cut the shapes in the tape and painted along it.
Took 2 or 3 coats to look good.
20230622_193820.jpg

After getting them all in, that I could at least see in pics anyways, I then cleaned up edges with an excto knife.
Then, went over it all with a watered down white.
I'll later on weather over top all this.
20230622_231414.jpg

Not everything is completely correct. Some being because getting the tape in the tiny areas was quite tricky and some came out in a bit of an angle...so more weathering on those parts will help.

And the underside thats pretty much done. I'll look it over and decide it any area needs something more.
When I first painted it in 2009, I added some damaged spots with a soldering iron, but plently of it is either totally wrong, or close but a bit off.
So I just went ahead and weathernthose areas with the darkened damage anyways.
20230622_231623.jpg

So now to just weather all the sides pretty much to get it as closes as I possible can.
I ordered the decals a few days ago, so hopefully will be here soon.

And the guns and dish....don't want to forget them.

Wow it is looking good are you going to have it flying or landed ether way will look cool and your model looks like a studio scale one Great job!

Flying. The landing doors are actually glued shut, a they kept wanting to pop open. Its just figuring where to put it once done.

Decal sheet came in. Once I get to that part, I realize I do not have any instructions saying where they all go. I can probably find something on line, and use reference pics.

I was able to get the sides all painted today, and took off the blue tape, as I think its safe now. That tape fought me the whole way.
The front circle window, tape was stuck on something, but I got it out.
20230625_010908.jpg

The ond frame I added started to crack a little while taking the tape out, I think it will be ok.
20230625_010833.jpg

Heres all the sides. Pics still way to yellow, you can get the idea for now.

Adding dirt and rust and trying not to over do it, which is really easy to do.
