Photos of the 1984 Guess denim bomber jacket (and similar applicable garments)

Since this thread is pretty much pointless, I'm just going to put photos of MJF in the jacket in here to archive them.

Here is my Mexican Jacket which is the one that sold on Grailed in November. It was a present from a family member and I love it so much. The denim quality feels weaker than my 1986 innacurate jacket (blue/grey reversed with bad pockets) and definitely lighter! The collar is definitely fatter than the real 1984 jacket and doesn’t stand as good as the real deal. the grey part seems to not have the purplish tint like the accurate 1984 jacket! I love to wear it but it’s definitely a stress to not get it dirty!

What did you do to get it, save a life?

Like many of us here, i've been searching for this type of jacket for a loooong time. Some Guess jackets from that era in perfect shape can sell up to 300/400$ and when i showed the listing to a family member, i never thought they would make the move. I still think it's an incredibly high price for any denim jacket (even more considering it's not screen accurate) but the thing is, i would never be able to wear the youth sizes of the 1984 accurate version whereas the mexican jacket size seems to be more adult-oriented (the one i own is size M)

Just finding one in the first place is the real challenge lol! Good to know there's more around.

I’d like to point out something I’ve noticed about the Mexican jackets; The cuffs appear to be different than Marty’s American jacket, just like the Waistband.
IMG_9766.jpeg

Notice these Darts sewn into the sleeves at the cuff seam on the Mexican jackets, Marty’s American jacket in BTTF does not have this.
IMG_0528.jpeg

Also notice the orientation of the denim fabric weave on the Cuff panel matches the Sleeve on Mexican jackets, it is perpendicular on American made jackets just like the Collar and Waistband.

Here is a closeup of one of the few correct found jackets we know of.

Good eye, pretty neat.

With these jackets popping up every now and then (unfortunately not enough though), in variations, vests and Mexican jackets, I feel like we all know so much more about these elusive jackets (again still not enough).

Out of curiosity, if a genuine 1984 Guess jacket in the accurate colourway appeared online, what would be the selling price? How many of them do we know of that are out there? What would be the desired size? What size do we think MJF wore?

Two gray/blue ones exist. MJF most likely wore a youth size 18.

Would that be the one held in the Hollywood museum belonging to a member on here and the other one from lionestates with the Guess logo lining? I feel like Johnytroopers example might be the only one that we know of publicly.

I'd love to be proven wrong, I know I've heard people say "less than 10" are known to exist. I can't think of any more than one true two tone, grey/blue youth jacket from 84 that exists today. I'd love to think there's a wearhouse somewhere filled with boxes of them that never left the Guess stock room.

The fewer than 10 usually refers to all colorways.

It was a children’s jacket so when they grew out of them most parents would have passed them on or threw them out. It’s why so few survived.

Heck! Of the two known screen used jackets known to exist, one hasn’t been seen since the early 90s in Japan and the other was lost in Hurricane Katrina. So these things are just elusive in general.

Just makes them even more of a grail item to us obsessives.

I have not heard of the screen used jacket that was last seen in the early 90s in Japan, what is the story behind that?

I’ll do you one better. Here’s the only known picture of it taken around 1990. (Though the person who took that photo has said as late as 1995 before)

Owned by a Japanese collector. Shown at a Japanese BTTF exhibit that was put together. Rob Klein saw it up close enough to see that the vest was sewn to the jacket. It hasn’t been seen since.

OMG!! This is genuinely like seeing a cryptic. Absolutely amazing that the entire costume (or at least one version of it, possibly the only complete costume) still exists as of 1995. Would love to know where it's been hiding all this time since. Hidden away out of public view for the last 30 years. That's mind blowing, thank you so much for sharing.

Wow! I know that's from the 90s but it's still crazy seeing the screen used jacket outside of the movie. Hopefully a collector is secretly still just sitting with it.

The collector basically vanished after that exhibit. So we may never know.

Another transitional, this one with a single-segment waistband. Very odd. EDIT: Same style as Mitas's Sonic vest.

Good photo of everything in the same lighting. The jeans' blue is definitely lighter than the jacket blue, but only by a little.
