Pee-Wee's Big Adventure Bike

Got my buttons in the mail. They are a hair too big, but they look good with this size box, so I'm gonna use them until I find a smaller box.

I'll probably make another one with the smaller buttons too, but this one didn't turn out too badly. What do you guys think? And Ed, (or Abe,) what size buttons did you guys go with?

Looks good, are you going to run the red tubing into it or not?
I saw in the movie there are like three different locations. I might copy the Hollywood bike.

I also ended up with small buttons and those large ones.

I will indeed be putting the cable in it, I also intend to copy the hollywood bike. What are you doing for the brake handle? On the Hollywood bike the lever is tied up with a piece of wire.

Nice clean job! The buttons i went with are 12mm. I also bought some 14mm but decided on the 12mm...

I saw you had the wire on your lever, I think it was used to hold the tubing in somehow. I'll be doing the same. Though they did use a nylock nut- you can see it in the pics you post, it's hard to tell if you lever has a similar nut, but that can be one of those extra pieces you get later one when your all done.

I wonder if the wire was just used to hold the brake lever from flopping around during filming. It almost looks like it doesnt touch the red cable... Here are the only pics i have of it. Forgive the poor quality these were taken with my video camera.

The picture I posted with the wire was the museum bike, not mine. I dont think the wire touches the brake tubing at all, it is probably only used to keep the brake handle from flopping around, since the red tubing isn't hooked up to an actual brake.

edit, here is the museum bike picture again.

Got some work on my bike done over the weekend. Pretty much finished sculpting the rear bags.. I have a few spots that need a bit more refinement but they are basically done... Just need to coat them with urethane resin to create a hard shell and give them a couple skim coats of bondo. Then onto the molding process.

Here is my top bag, note to you guys be careful with the fin screws, I redilled the hole then ran a self tapping #4 screw.
On this particular fin the hole was ever so slightly to one side of the red acylic and I heard a snap, there a small crack in it now, I have spare so I'll drill another. Make sure to drill centered also make sure to mark the depth, you also may want to use a #3 screw.

I'll also run some clear epoxy down the surface to make sure it doesn't break off, while riding.

In the rear I have my signal stat, I need to fit a carb jet or turn a custom brass piece to be able to actually use the center hole as a "smoke screen" hole.

Still working on the surface and will probably add the fiberglass backing today.

I'm so jealous of you guys with the space to do fiberglass work. Looks great Abe.

Ive done a little more myself, although nothing as significant as you guys. I finished up my headlight, except for the propeller. But then I also bought a second Super Rocket Ray to play with, I should get that one in the mail soon. The one I have now doesn't light up for some reason.

I got a new gooseneck and permanently mounted the compass.

I mounted the button box using a 3/4 inch galvanized pipe strap that I painted black, I'm pretty sure it was black on the original bike. It's attached to the box with sheet metal screws. Still need to run the red tubing for it, but I'll probably wait until I find a shifter to do it.

I made the collar using a 3/4" PVC pipe coupler, painted with Alclad II chrome, which looks more like a nice brushed stainless steel. I have a set screw around here somewhere that I still have to put in it.

Finally I got the brake done, tubing installed, and running into the tank. It's running into the top of the tank by the compass, I didn't want to drill a hole for it, I'll have to look closer at the hollywood bike to see if they drilled out to accommodate the tube.

BTW all your other stuff looks great. I've been finishing up my wife's DX.
We finished re-clearing and polishing paint last weekend. Then small bits and pieces on Saturday, she made a custom leather seat cover for the "too new" looking seat. It's more a really nice TV Quality restoration.
And yeah it was the first DX I had since about 2003. I painted it and laced the wheels, the rear is a S2 to a Nexus 3 speed. You can actually run one of those on an X1 and use the same Shimano Shifter. Though you'll have the shift acutator right under the saddlebag.

funny, no she wouldn't want a pink and white X1, she'll be getting a Dottie bike instead.
She picked the colors. I think they really work well together.
On the tank, find longer screws and attached it really loos and push back, then tighten.
Another note, this work better with the plastic tank because it doesn't have the inner flange, you might have to do some trimming with the tin snips.

Oh right, the Dottie bike. It's a shame that it's barely shown in the movie. Just the head on shot and the silhouette. I got the tank pushed back on my bike now, much better.
