Yup I know that. But I failed to make the distinction between comics and film. Sorry.
All black works in comics because you can draw whatever you want to see in every frame. You can make it acetuate the hero's physique or obscure him completely in shadow.
Then you make an all-black costume for a movie and shooting it is a pain in the arse. That's probably why they left all of the dimensional webbing on the suit so there's be SOMETHING to look at.
Then you get some poor schlub who makes an all black costume for a convention and thinks it's gonna be all cool and spooky and stuff.
Except he doesn't understand that he'll be seen EVERY TIME HE WEARS IT in crappy hotel hallway lighting, crappy disco lighting at the convention dance, poorly aimed digital camera flash or full-on daylight. He won't have a crew working overtime to get the rim light just perfect. He won't have an artist drawing in light hits where they just wouldn't ever happen to make the thing look dramatic.
All of his work making it perfect gets horribly underserved by his environment. And people will think its cool, people will compliment and appreciate the hard work, but the effect he WANTS... the effect he's trying so hard to pull off... the effect that MAKES the suit so cool in the first place in the movie or the comic, just doesn't happen.
Practical issues aside, as far as all black from a design standpoint goes, its just monumentally boring.
Once again, my opinion.
