MR Stormtrooper helmet. Opnions?

Guys, lets leave AA and TE out of MR discussion.

well from what I read from Amy I believe it was rebelscum, wish I woulda pasted it when I read it, but basically it was that the Pic in the newsletter wasnt the finished product either. :rolleyes

Lets hope not.

I think we can all agree on this... They should make it Exacatly the way it was originally, OR completely Asymetrical.

A mix of the 2 is just stupid.

I dont understand why they wont just do one of each as a test for future products... :unsure

Let the sales speak for themselves as to how they should make the OT buckets...
screen accurate wonky glory:love

or symmetrical?

Again, why not both, at least for the first one.

Agreed...I'd much rather see this one...

From Jez's site...

Kev, I'm pretty sure MR's first prototype was based off a GF - and was a first stab for the 2005 Toy Fair.

IMO the one they showed this year was better than the 2005, as had more of the asymmetrical glory of the originals.

I'm sure that by the time this new one is ready it'll look good. Theyve already said theyre working on a few things like the ears, frown etc.

Hopefully we'll get some better pics soon so we can tell for sure.

Cheers

Jez

ps in agreement with you there Ken

See,....that's the thing...they shouldn't have to "work" on anything....then it's not screen accurate. Copy an original and leave it at that. Just like was said, let the sales and fans decide. Make one of each and leave it at that.

I'd wait to see pictures of the finished prototype before getting so torqued up... Bryan from MR has said from the get-go the pic on the site is of an earlier version...

yes. i also hope it will look better. i have two sheperton's, and pre ordered two of these from master replicas today. if the final product doesn't look good i send it back. no big deal.

I actually really liked the helmet they had at C3 and I wish that was the helmet they were producing now. Since people can get their hands on helmets that are cast off the real deal in the same materials as the originals it seemed like a nice change of pace to have the idealized version of it in fiberglass.

Oh well I have ordered one under the same notion, if I don't like it I can always cancel my order.

yeah i agree an idealized version would be fine but it's marketed as an authentic stormtrooper helmet and they just havent delivered that.
It's a real let down everyones been hanging on for ages to get their hands on an authentic authorised replica and been hearing about how they used an original to take scans of etc and look what gets delivered.
Really dissapointing like girls with wonderbras

MR historically puts poor pictures on their website.

I don't understand how you guys can be knocking this so hard when the pictures don't give you a good idea what it really looks like.

It's a tradition with new MR releases:
1. MR shows a prototype that everyone likes (for the most part).
2. MR sends out an email with the sale date and a new picture that everyone hates.
3. Amy assures everyone that the production piece will not look like the picture and that all the concerns will be addressed.
4. After a delay the product is released with numerous quality issues which are being addressed. The final piece does not look like the prototype or the picture.
5. Everyone looks forward to the next MR release.

I've never purchased an MR product. There was never any reason to. I really only collected blasters and sabers, and in those categories you can get just as accrate, if not more accurate than MR, by sourcing parts on your own.

Models? They're beautiful and I can appreciate them, but I don't need to collect them. And, the paint jobs would always annoy me anyway..not bad, but too inconsistent and not quite right. It would drive me nuts.

I have always been interested in Vader and Stormtrooper helmets. They're just so iconic. If MR could actually manage to make a helmet that actually was an excact copy of an original OT helmet, which their advert seems to boast, I'd be happy to buy one, or two, or three. Don't even get into the quality issues ala ROTS Vader, clones, etc..

When it comes to helmets, the MR model almost seems to be "advertise", "make big claims", "collect the orders", "delay and disappoint", "apologize and offer a refund". And, yet, people are still willing to line up in droves to go through the same thing all over again because, "don't get them wrong", they love MR and everything they make, yada, yada, yada. :rolleyes

I hope the helmet looks better than it does so far. I also hope that it ships in less than a year and that it ships unscathed. But if it doesn't, no matter. People will still line up once again salivating at the release of another "exacting" replica that doesn't quite look like what was seen on screen, is an "idealized" interpretation, and runs the usual gamut of quality and delivery issues. But don't get me wrong...I love MR and everything they make.

What he said.

I would like to bring up an issue that was discussed earlier in this thread with regard to the colour of the screen used Stormtrooper 'Hero' Helmet eye lenses. Let me first just say that this is not in anyway meant to take sides on the issue , as I appreciate the expertise of people involved on both sides. I am only interested in discovering facts.

First, let me say that I believe I found a way that unequivocally proves the colour of the 'Hero' helmet lenses.
What I did was take a High Definition Screen Cap of the shot where Luke and Han(dressed as Stormtroopers)are in the elevator on the way up to the detention block. I took this shot and opened the file in Photoshop. This is a pretty good shot to use as the camera is pretty close to the Hero Helmets and the lighting is pretty bright and we see the Hero eyes quite well.

Next, while in Photoshop I went into the Image adjustments menu and went to the Brightness/ Hue sub-menu and increased the brightness. Then I went to the Hue/ Saturation sub-menu and increased the Saturation. Next I used the Dodge tool to further lighten the 'Hero' eyes lenses. Finally, I used the colour sample tool to sample the eye colour. Guess what colour it was, GREEN. I sampled both the eye lenses on Luke's 'Hero' Helmet as well as Han's, all the samples off all the Helmet lenses were green. The samples were taken off the highlighted areas where the true colour of the lenses were showing.

With regard to this subject it would seem that the eye colours may be green after all. Remember, this was taken from a high quality HD Screen Cap from the actual film, so there should be no issues with color correction and the like. HD is the best quality in colour rendition other than 35mm film. So far I have tried this with only one screencap, I wil try some others later and see what happens.

If I can, I 'll post some pics of what I got .

Thanks for posting that. I would like to point out that due to various screen caps, pictures, and the Mark Hamill quote I submitted, the discussion is over.
The hero eye pieces were green. At least most were. I am not ruling out that there wasn't a hero with smoked, but at least Mark Hamill's, the promo guy, and Harrison Ford's too were green. That's 3 out of 6.
If someone can prove that some of the TIE helmets from ANH were green too, I say that does it.
That would be strong evidence that at least a good deal of the bubble lenses (heroes and TIEs) were green. Why change material when you've only got around 20 lenses to make and we already know 3 heroes use green and possibly one TIE?
The TIE faceplates look like they are the hero versions which means they would have been made at the same time or around the same time as the heros. I know there is a few pictures on Star Wars Helmets of a reconditioned ANH TIE with green eyes but Jez got to play around with another with clear. Which was original? Mabye both? It would make sense if the TIE and heroes are the same faceplates (ie made near the same time) that they would make the bubble lenses for both TIEs and Heroes out of the same stuff. IMO.
So here's one. Can you prove the eyepieces aren't green? Just because they look black doesnt mean a thing, so does the stunt trooper's green material in most cases.

My feelings on the MR helmet, let's wait and see. I don't have much faith in them really, but I'm willing to not over-critize on something that's supposed to be a prototype. My experiance is; if they are selling it, it's going to be pretty close to the pictures they have up.

I hope I am pleasantly suprised.
