MR Stormtrooper helmet. Opnions?

I always expected it to look somewhat idealized. I think these shots look a LOT better, and I'm even more encouraged to hear MR listening to fans to make adjustments further. I will definitely be picking one up. This is VERY VERY encouraging.

All in all it doesn't look too bad. The ears look too sharp in contrast to the face which is not sharp enough, the center of the mouth is just bad.

Thanks for the photos Jez, I would say the helmet looks pretty nice. For someone who is not completely obsessed by helmets, it must be a perfect collectors item.

I will see what I can find on the Tie pilots, but I am afraid those shots might be too dark to see anything. I only have troopers on my hard drive right now, since I am building one in 3D :)

NoHumorMan, I'll also check out the shot where Luke puts down his helmet, but I think the eyes are pretty much black in that shot.

I AGREE! I want a wonky, discolored, ABS plastic helmet. It has to be sticky all-over, and smell like beer inside! :wacko

:lol Good to see somebody that doesn't want a sort of stormtrooper looking overpriced lump of fibreglass.
Although i think myself i would prefer a nice accurately reproduced ABS hero helmet built for close up shots in it's original pristine condition as seen on screen.
Hang on a tick wasn't there a company a couple of years back said that's what they planned to produce ? Master something or other :confused
3 versions i seem to recall with the budget version being fibreglass :unsure

Well with the excellent pics Jez took of the helmet I think it has done alot of good to the helmet. I actually hated the helmet until the new pics from Jez came out, thanks for those awesome shots. From not buying to buying! Plus adding that MR stated they are doing the mods on the lid which the fans so happily b#$%*ed about. Now I cant wait for this Hero Version!! MR is now in the right direction :)

The pictures definitely do make a difference, much better. I don't mind idealized helmets, but for me I won't that "wonkiness" seen on the big screen. I admit they seem to have done a fair job of combining the two, but I do still wish they were doing a CE, LE, and whatever.

Thanks Sewbacca - it was fun taking the pics so I'm glad theyve been well received.

Lord A - I too am sorry they didnt do the 3 ranges originally outlined. However, the reality is IMO a high-spec ABS helmet was always going to be a commercial non-starter. The vast majority of "collectors" out there have no real idea just how flimsy the original helmets are - and I honestly think MR would have given themselves a Customer Service nightmare with huge return rates from people who through their helmets were cheap pieces of plastic (which of course the original were) had they taken that route.

A big company like MR could only go Fiberglass and that meant that there were always going to be some compromises. IMO the vast majority of collectors will be extremely happy with these helmets, and those who need that additional accuracy are much better suited with a totally hand made ABS/Stryrene lid from one of the fan-made suppliers.

Cheers

For all the moaning, the 500 pre-orders with the special edition prints sure sold out quick.

This "mentality" certainly isn't the case for the hundreds who have bought fan made replicas (and AA stuff: for considerably MORE $$)

A little marketing goes a LONG way.

So are they doing grey or green lenses? Jez, are you saying they are supposed to be grey because the TIE had grey? Are all revisions going to be filtered through you? I ask because unless you have held a hero TK in your hands, I don't think you can say wether they were grey or green. I don't think anyone can. Didn't they say they scanned in a hero? Wouldn't they know what color the lenses were?

The Hero at the Ranch has no lenses, so if they scanned that one no help there.
So far all the original TIE helmets have had smoked lenses.

Don't the Hero and TIE helmets have the same 'tells' in the faceplate?
This would seem to indicate they were made around the same time.
It's not too far of a stretch to think the lenses are the same.

Is there an intact Hero helmet anywhere to check?
That's the only way to get a solid answer.

I’m sure MR’s canvassing opinion from a number of sources before coming to a decision, however I’m convinced that the lenses were grey and not green.

Everything points to grey that I’ve seen (including the point Chris mentioned above) and I’m convinced Mark Hamills “everything looked green” comments are a McGuffin. Six Hero helmets were made and only one is accounted for (sans lens) so there must be another one out there…. Somewhere.

JM – I hear what you’re saying but IMO MR is in a different market, and for that market Fiberglass was the way to go.

In terms of the lens colour it seems as though you guys have chosen to ignore the photographic evidence presented earlier in this thread. I am not saying that there were no grey lenses but I think you have to concede that considering all the evidence to the contrary that there were at least some that were green.

I'm not sure the methodology is sound for those color experiments.
Perhaps we should test known lenses and see what results occur from screen caps. Will stunt lenses look green on film? What about TIEs?
Studio lights versus outdoors? There are a lot of variables not considered.
Trouble is I don't think there's any circumstance where the TIE lenses could be checked on film. The cockpits are lit with red lights and the Death Star hallway shots aren't very closeup.
