Kevin's scatter build thread

Started working on the Armorers helmet

I used the information shared by Indy Magnoli. I Didn't want to derail his thread so here's the link to see for yourself

Mando Armorer Helmet refinished using Nail Polish Powder!

I didn't keep a fully detailed log unfortunately but here are some progress pics

I sanded down the finish and made it a little better. The raw look showed up way more in photos so I started over . I think it’s better and starting to shape up . I began some weathering as well. I’m going to use screws to hold the horns in place. The weathering is a gentle wash with dark brown and black to begin the base coat of making the helmet dirty and used. I’m not a clean prop guy:rolleyes:

Pretty much finished the weathering. I’m going to let dry and install the visor. It’s hard to capture the detail from the weathering job but here’s a few pictures.
I like to use actual water and I make it look like dirty water with acrylic paints. I spray the hell out of it and let it run in its natural flow leaving dirt tracks and streaks. It also puddles in the proper areas leaving a realistic look. Then I go back and wash more areas lightly and begin my dry brushing to finish it off. So far, this method has served me well.

All set for now and stored in her display area. I still need to add the visor but for now I’ll let her sit.
This is the way

After looking at these pictures, I really need to dirty up that Snow Trooper helmet.. Doesn't fit my collection unless its weathered.

Worked on the Mando as well. This has already been completed with weathering. Also missing the visor but I have a post about that soon.
Also just finished my Jango first coat. This has more detail so I will keep a log on this build. Din was the same as the armorer and has very little details so I didn’t keep anything on that.

To give an example on how brilliant the finish really is, the picture of Jango that is half black is actually taken in the dark outside while the sun was going down.
I have no idea how long I need to let the finish heal before masking and painting so I will just go with the standard 48 hours before messing with it to be safe.
The dish under the helmet is a portable lazy Susan I bought from Lowes for about 20 bucks. Works great to keep moving larger pieces during finishing stages.

Nail polish powder link

Link to Indy Magnoli instructional

I used all in one primer/paint as a base and let dry till it was still a little tacky to the touch and then used a sponge to brush in the powder.
I used Red for Gold powder
Black for the Silver powder.

Assembled, painted. Needs the clear over the blue areas and then I’ll begin my weathering process.

Well here is where my thread title lives up to its name. I went on a building spree to try and finish some stuff up and clear these shelves
Went back and modified my ANH saber with the two hole D ring and added rivets in the handle also moved the lever position
Built my Empire and the ranch graflex. Builds are completed so now I just need to weather em

Here’s the ranch version. This will be beaten to hell and weathered as close as I’ve seen the photos from the original

Well look at you! Long time no see, great seeing you post! Wicked good job!
Hello my friend, glad to be posting and building.

I have been so busy running my company and not much -me time- for building. I pop in from time to time and look to see what's going on here. I have been messing around here and there when I can. I finally finished my Luke Helmet- I will post a pic when I get home. Also put together a bunch of 3D print sabers and Starkillers Maul Saber and some models. I will post those as well. Unfinished but at least they are now ready to be.

I have shelves full of boxes with props waiting to be made. I am on a mission to complete these now. I finished my Graflex's and now moving on to finish Vaders Sabers. I may just stick with the building part and go back to the weathering after. The building and assembly takes all the time. The finish work is something I can easily go back to without having to make sure I have a clean bench or proper tools out and ready to keep going. (Less Set Up Time-If You Will)
