Yes, intended is you make the INSIDE of the chest smooth. Here's a pic of a commercially available 1/6 scale ark.
You can see the frame of the insert sticks out.
Are you sure? here are the screen used props The Ark of the Covenant, found at last! A peek at famous props from Indiana Jones' movies

I have these files and ready to go- I have a few things in que first and space is an issue at the moment. I need to clear out my work area so I can have more space for displaying

Is everyone doing their building logs here on this thread, or on their own pages? I would really love to start following and watching the progress-do's and don'ts as well.

Also--what has been the best recommended filament as well as wood goes? I'm sure there have been some improvements as others have built these.

I think this is the only thread. I use elegoo rapid pla because its like $10 a roll. I used 9 rolls for my build. The only thing I can suggest is use gyroid infill for the legs so you can pour plaster in them and give them strength. I also had some issues printing the top leg part and the bottom leg part. The supports need to be really close. The short panels also need good supports because there is a gap between the trim edge and art. As mentioned in the thread the wings are loose so make sure you wait to glue them so they line up.
