Indiana jones Abner Ravenwood journal

Kinda like many think that Fedora in TLC is Ravenwood.

Oh wow, that never crossed my mind ever...it doesn't even really make sense...

It didn't help that over on COW there was some guy that was passing himself as someone "in the know" that spewed a bunch of nonsense that everyone over there believed.
Boy where they surprised when the cat was out of the bag that he was bogus.

Didn't fool me for a minute.

Yeah, I guess I missed all of that stuff. By the time I started collecting and found the forums, I just came here and while I'm a member over at COW I feel like it's pretty dead so I rarely check it. Honestly, I've never LOVED the Ravenwood idea because it felt kind of weird to me that both journals/diaries he used in the movies would have belonged to somebody else.

I'd love an alternate Indy version of the journal, that would be pretty cool.

Yeh i use to be on there alot, but nobody is really on there any more. Its more or less an archive of knowledge now.

For anyone wondering if the kit Walter is selling is worth it, I can guarantee it is. Between the fantastic stories within the text he and dad created and the multiple inserts and sketches within the journal this thing is absolutely a must have for your Indy collection.

Nonsense about what exactly?

Most of the stuff he was saying was made up and he was always a bit cryptic on exact details.
Most of it went against published facts.

Anyways, I had popped in there after being away for a while and found that not only did they discover his deceit but they removed all his posts and also most of the threads he commented in.

I haven't been over there in a few years.

Oh, I agree, it's definitely a fun thing to have in the collection. Also, since you never see what's inside the book in the movie, it doesn't really matter as far as display purposes what you have in it, so just to have something in it, whether or not it's canon, is neat.

LTsmash1200 - are you still making the blank diaries (I think you mentioned you might have enough materials to do one more small one). I see that your Etsy version sold. I’d be interested in one of these as a fun ‘quarantine’ project.

The "lost Journal" is a fan made book, not an official LFL publication.
The book credits include members from here and COW.

The Lost Journal is officially licensed. When I worked on it, we had a lot of contact with LFL about what we could and could not include. I specifically asked if we could allude to "Fedora" from LC as being Abner, but they said "no", so that is verified in that way at least as "non canonical" while, on the other hand, they had no problem with connecting the Peacock's Eye from YIC with Lao Che's diamond, even though that's most likely a fan retcon as well.

Most of it went against published facts.

Although in this case, yeah, this person was very dubious, but there is a lot about the Indy history that is not contained in the published "facts". I know some stories (even told by the "big three") that are false. So hearing different stories sometimes makes it more believable but yeah... not in this particular case! ;)

I figured there seemed to be enough interest to keep offering them, so I ordered some new book cloth from a different company that I hope will more closely match the color in the movie prior to weathering it. I should have some more available in the next few weeks.

The only way Fedora being Ravenwood works at all is if he's on some sort of long term undercover mission to expose Panama and his associates.

I just bought this download, however I have none of those images shown on the first page of this thread.

Where can I find some of these inserts.

Another question I have is about ruled sheets or plain paper sheets. I have been looking all over and I have seen both. What version was actually used in the film prop?

Thanks in advance
Kevin

Please let me know when these are available. Are you also selling the grail version?

images of most of the inserts can found online and I just used Photoshop to recreate them, plus some i made up myself

Ok, so I went and watched Raiders. Studied the film to see exactly what was shown with this diary.

2 observations.

1rst. Its only seen in the map room twice.

It is ruled pages and not plain.

2nd. Unless it's in an extended version or special edition showing deleted takes, I dont see anything with a mailed envelope ,package ,inserts or pictures for the diary.

This in no way alters my goal to make this book however, it does raise questions. Are the inserts and envelope an idealized version of this prop?

If not, can you point me in the direction of where I can go to research this myself. When it comes to prop building , I go after every known detail and implement it in all of my builds. If you look on my scatter build thread, you will see how far I like to go .

Thanks in advance
Kevin

Edit:
I did some reading in a wiki page, so I do see a back story on the journal being sent to Indy. Are there more stories or details on this. So far , all I can find are the wiki results.

I believe most of the info on the notebook comes from the novelization of the film. After that... it's just fan fiction.
I'm finding that out after a lot dead end research. Lol.

There are a few different ways I see others making these. I will be doing the same with the fan fictional attempt. Either way, it will be fun

The only issue now is finding images. I can see where there used to be a lot here on other threads, but time erased them or the links no longer work.

I just started a request thread to see if these can resurface

Yep, pages look pretty blank.

I need to go back to the movie and get a screen shot from the map room where I was able to confirm ruled (lines) paper. See if anything was written or how full the page was

Yeah, ruled pages is really all I was able to glean from screenshots. I filled mine out using Walter's guidelines and then when I was done I just googled images and drawings of things mentioned in the story, like a painting of King Solomon, a photo of Tanis, etc. to print out and stick in as inserts. I'd love to add some more if anybody has any good ones. I just wrap mine in brown paper when I ship them because it looks nice and that's how the Grail diary was shipped. As far as I know we've never found out what was actually in the prop, so it's all just conjecture and fan fiction. Aside from getting the green and red cover and approximate size right, to me these are a nice canvas for creativity. You could fill it out going with the Ravenwood story, or it would be just as cool to make up your own notes as if it was just Indy's notebook for whatever adventures he had been on most recently.

The shot inside the map room looks blank. The one above outside is the only one that I could tell had some writing.

Yeah. Let's not forget, back then, they never thought of high def TVs and screen grabs like we have today. Maybe this was just a blank prop used to help with a story, and never meant for a close up

It's going to be fun taking the liberty to make each one of these unique and special to our collections. One day, my kids will inherit my prop and toy collection and seeing how all my props where hand made, they should be special to them once I'm gone.

Thanks.
