Headgoonie Back to the Future 40th Anniversary Denim Jacket

I think they should've gone back to the 2018 patterns and modified them from there. The 2021 was okay, but needed a LOT of work. Every photo of the 2018 worn or on a hanger looks great on its own.

I fully agree with that. It looks perfectly accurate not sure they moved on from that.

2025 color corrected, 2018 color corrected, the Magnoli-Mitas collaboration, color correction of Jonnytrooper's real one, my correct color one in the sun.
I also noticed that the waist band in Headgoonie's jacket isn't that accurate in that photo. But there are photos where it looks better. Although I haven't seen anyone truly replicate the waistband of the original.

The waistband on the jacket worn by MJF in most shots in the movie curls up at the corners really badly. I've never seen another GUESS jacket of any similarity that does that.

Yeah me neither. That's probably for the best because it doesn't look that good. off-topic but still have no idea if they took a random jacket or they modified it a little bit. They went from the dark eric stoltz one to the one we know and love.

From what I've heard and gathered, this is what I'm pretty sure happened:
In early 1984, Back to The Future started filming in upper California. After a few weeks of filming with Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly, they realized he wouldn't fit the part. So, they got the director's original pick for Marty, Michael J. Fox. They had very limited time to get new wardrobe for him, as he is much shorter than Stoltz. So, they went out to a few stores and got the wardrobe pieces. One of these was a GUESS outlet. There, they got his jeans and this denim jacket. The denim jacket they chose was in an indigo/gray and blue denim colorway, but the jacket also came in a blue/tan leather colorway, as well as vest versions for both.
For the film, they modified the lining of the jacket to have a beige washed yellow-blue paisley as well as fabric from a Dolce Vita shirt that has celebrity faces printed on it. The same jacket as used in the movie with the same attributes has been seen three times since the production of the film, a screen-used one in a museum in Japan in 1991, another screen-used one given away to a woman who lost it in Katrina, and a third unmodified one that was found somehow by a user here, jonnytrooper. Two other have been found that have slightly different attributes, most notably a third segment on the elastic waistband.

I have been meaning to make one long explanation copy pasta using all the info from the users here.
Nice. I doubt a standard jacket would have these patterns

There's only one guy (as far as I know) that actually has (or appears to have) every single genuine part of his outfit, and that's jonnytrooper, though I could be wrong. EmmaInCandyland has everything, though the jacket is modified from blue/leather to be a movie replica.

Ok now I'm seeing the edited part. it's a shame that one of the jackets got lost in Katrina. I also don't see any people that worked on the movie talk about jacket, given that it's one of the coolest things ever. I find it very strange GUESS hasn't tried to recreate it, they would make bank with this. I mean Madrid Skateboards releases the Marty McFly skateboard every anniversary pretty much.

It really is a mystery. I'm pretty sure Nick asked if they still had the patterns, but there was no response. Something like that.

Yeah I saw that too. It was actually because of him that I discovered the Headgoonie jacket.
I can't actually remember how I got into this mess of jackets. I think I just got into BTTF , wanted to be Marty for Halloween, and somehow found Mitas' Magnoli collab thread. I might've seen the 2018 HG thread first, though.

Anyway. I'll "take one for the team" and get the Headgoonie jacket as soon as possible since nobody seems to really like the color choice.

This was last Halloween. The jacket is a bootleg. Gray acid wash and black leather. Smelled amazing when I washed it.

I did Marty for Halloween, but I just wore my random Levi's Jacket and started to look more closely and saw that it wasn't a standard jacket. Then I looked it up on Amazon and almost convinced myself to get one but I didn't do that and I'm glad I didn't. Then I discovered Max Cady's but even then I knew the jacket looks kinda odd and not that good.
