Back to the Future Guess Marciano Denim Jacket Replica

Patch arrived, but the seller didn't listen to my measurement requirements and sent me one that is way too big. I went with a different seller that can actually get me what I need.

A cool find. Back in the 80s Sears made their own version of the jacket but with the colors inverted. This jacket sold to someone last year.

Had to get someone from the states to make the patch as the last one from Europe was lost in the mail. It arrived today. Originally had the idea of using a cuttable sheet magnet to attach to the back but i dont think that will work with how thick the denim is. So im going to change it to something else. Maybe rare earth magnets.

Another find where I don't have anywhere else to really put it. Found this jacket from a South Korean website. A rare color variant. Had to use a website that specializes in purchasing items that can't be sent overseas to have it shipped to them then they can ship it anywhere in the world. I'm not using it for any kind of project. Keeping it as is.

I have the same jacket with reversed colours/lighter blue. The colours on mine are exactly the same as the 1984 Marty jacket.

Small update on the project. An expert has reviewed my notes, materials, and reference vest. I was requested to clarify some details for the patterns to be made properly. I emailed all of my answers back to their questions. I hope to have something to show soon.

Realized I had missed a detail. The snaps on the cuffs are offset and not centered. I hypothesize Guess did this intentionally so when you roll the sleeves up twice the snap is closer to the edge of the cuff to make it easier to snap closed. I passed this information onto Indy to have this be done on the project.

Doing some tests with a fabric marker to make the leftover dye triangle the movie prop has. First one I outlined the triangle and lightly colored the inside in. Didn't do it super heavy. I then smudged it around so it didn't look too concentrated. Second test I used some masking tape to make the triangle then added in the marker. Indy Magnoli suggested this method and I believe it does look more natural as he described. The tips on the real patch aren't as sharp and are actually more rounded. I'll see what I can do to replicate that once I receive the jacket.

Over the past month or so I have been receiving questions from the production floor and clarifying the areas they had concerns about. Currently, the patterns are being finished up. I should have something to show soon.

My friend London took apart a Headgoonie jacket and discovered that they achieved the wrinkle effect where the two halves meet by sewing in a strip of elastic. We are fairly certain Guess used this method as well as the results are nearly identical. I passed this on to Indy and this is something they will be adding to my project.

So is the research finished and are the patterns finalized? If so, when might the improved jackets be available?

The last update I was given was that the patterns are nearly complete. I have not asked if these new patterns will be implemented for all future jackets they sell, but in my opinion, that would be a good business move for them.

I have this idea of a custom tag to resemble the Guess tag. A very crude drawing with inverted colors. I decided against using Size 18 due to that being the children's scale. So I went with Small. For now the Style is BTTF but another good option would be 1985. Still deciding on that.View attachment 1817731View attachment 1817732
I'm sure it's much too late to implement, but something like this? I made the colors correct because I found the red to be difficult to see against the white.
