Back to the Future Guess Marciano Denim Jacket Replica

Also, perhaps this has been answered before,
Why is it that, in the movie, the main gray always appears a soft blue color, but every gray/blue vest or jacket that can be found (like jonny's) is straight-up just a monochrome gray with barely a hint of the indigo. I speculate that the one MJF wears is an earlier run, which is why it has more attributes of the later 1983-style half-and-half jackets (like the one you sold me, Mitas), with the 2-segment band and the bluer gray, as opposed to a 3-band and monochrome gray like the 1985 zip pocket jackets.
Maybe it's just me being crazy, though.
Edit: It's probably just differences in lighting and filters, and I AM crazy. Also, the attached photo of my jacket is not a good example.
The jacket is a crossweave of a deep navy indigo and whitish fibers. When faded the depth of the indigo makes it hard to discern whether it’s black or blue and certain lighting brings out one more than the other.

If you pick apart the seams on vintage Guess clothing in the same weave/wash you can see the original color:

Just differences in lighting, filters, etc. Behind the scenes shots show a more accurate colour.

You can see the indigo on the vest as well

Also two of my jackets compared. 1985 zip jacket compared to 1983 jacket which has the same colour as the 1984 Marty jacket. The earlier jacket has the indigo tinge, which is not on jackets from 85/86 onwards.

The photos of Mackenzie Astin wearing the jacket are a little closer to the indigo color, I think

Using this picture as a jumping off point, one detail I least see get overlooked in replicas is the rolled edges of the seams.

On the real deal, the very edge of the enclosed seam is always very light in comparison to the rest of the jacket. It’s one of those things that subconsciously makes replicas look wrong.

So grab your sandpaper or bleach and carefully lighten your edges if you want the most accurate jacket.

I've had these exact same thoughts. I'm afraid of ruining the fabric if I sand it though. I've done tests with a dremel on some fabric and it seems to smudge the dye around.

I guess it'll just have to get worn the real way.
The challenge is that type of fading is due to the application of a chemical agent being concentrated where the fabric is folded like that.

Small paintbrush and watered down bleach might be the best bet.

Mackenzie Astin's jacket buttons doesn't have a full-on dimple, but there's a flat spot. Long, long, LONG shot, but I wonder if he still has it.

I've been told by London that standard bleach is not strong enough to fade it.

I can still see the indent. But they are never 100% consistent.

Unlikely... I think his mom liked throwing things away... Sean Astin's original prop Goonies map got thrown out because their mom thought it was junk.

I wish getting Bruin reps wasn't so difficult. Otherwise, this is BTTF year for me!
I have a pair in my size. They just came with blue swooshes and heels so I used red leather paint on them and it hasn't worn off in the 8 years I've owned them.
