Alien / Nostromo Uniforms

Awesome thread! :D

Got me really inspired to make some stuff. I really liked that prototype jacket from the start of the thread so I made one myself. Had this jacket I really liked so just sewed up some laces and bought patches. Even made some pants to go with the jacket. It's not screen accurate but I like how it turned out. It's also something I can wear on a daily basis. I might also add some more lacing on the front later on.

Namaste!

That is really slick! I like the contrasting/coordinating colors of the dark laces and the light jacket. Well-done!

On the subject of T-shirts, Walmart is currently selling a nice lightweight one that I think is pretty close to the screen used color-or at least the pistachio one- that everyone is talking about. Also in regards to Lambert's vest, you could probably use a surplus USAF or Navy current issue flight suit which can be found at surplus stores and thrift shops. I think further back in the thread, there is a picture of a group of people in costume and it looks like that is what they did.

BRAVO LV426, great work ! Love this new approach at replicating a NOSTROMO jacket a lot !

You should maybe a look at this thread in the junkyard, just in case you'd be interested to replace your patches with more screen-accurate ones :

LV426.....interesting variation on the Dallas/Kane flight jacket! great for wearing everyday.

Late to the game, but have to thank all the folks who put in so much time and effort to pull this together! My patches arrived last week, and the jacket hunt has begun!
Cheers, Jeff

Just got my PF flyers and took off the round logos on the sides and am left with the circle of thread holes...
Any fix for this or do you just leave them showing?
Also wondered about the green emblem on the back of the heel. Is that SA or do you rip that off somehow?
Thanks,
B.

As none of the actual screen used boots had any logo's visible, I would personally remove the logo tab. Although this can be a right pain in the a*$€! As for the stitch holes left from the removal of the unknown manufacturers logo badge? they solved the problem by painting or spraying over in white paint.
And don't forget for screen accuracy to add the third vent hole on the side of the boot and paint a red band band around the top of the rubber foxing and a thick blue band below it!

So the only way of removing that coloured band on the back of the shoes is to spray paint it?

You could possibly take a sharp scalpel and atempt to pick the stitches on the coloured heel strip, don't think it's structural? but check first on a small area, to see if it's only for show? don't want to cut your boots in half? or you could just spray white?

I've been looking at this too, the stitches seem pretty simple except for the section where they run across the heel stitching. MB just take all of them off except the area of crossover and paint that little remaining bit of color.

If anyone finds a good way to take off the little green emblem on the heel, please post here. I'm going to try some needle nose pliers on the little bugger and see if it'll peel off. Heh.

I still need d rings, vinyl and rivets. Egads.

Regarding the removal of the rubber tags on the heel, on previous footwear this worked for me, I used a small scalpel and scored around the edge, working progressively deeper, applying more pressure as I went around.
I also used a small thin hacksaw blade to slowly cut down the middle of the tag, you tend to have more control with the hacksaw preventing you from cutting too deep. you then can use the scalpel and work it gradually under the tag to the cut made by the hacksaw.....take your time, I learned through trial and error, and practicing with a old pair of boots. when the tag has been removed just smooth the surface down, either fine sandpaper or the girlfriends pumice stone!

Nostromo costume for SDCC from the ground up. I just finished this sewing project and thought that I would post some photos of the end result. I approached the costume as if I was involved in the production of the uniforms for Weyland-Yutani, so I have made a few changes in the uniform. I added gussets to the pant pockets and changed the collar tab on the jacket. So, it is not 100% screen accurate. The ribbon I used for the lacings was from Jontay Distributing. It is grosgrain nylon webbing 3/8 inch foliage green mil-t-5038. The velcro I used was from hookandloop.com 1 inch ranger green. The zippers are from zippersource.com. Hope you like it.

This looks awesome! It looks like you put a lot of time and effort into making it and it looks fantastic!

From the States you can find a lot of webbing material (but they don't send it oversea for postage reasons). It's not as easy to purchase the same stuff online from Europe.
What type of cord did you use for the lacing? It's actually spot on the original

The cord on this jacket is from a mb-2 anti g suit a later version of the g4b suit. I made another jacket for a friend for the con and on that one i used dyed mini blind cord.

Hi,

What did you use for the fabric that goes under the lacing, looks spot on?

BrianM

It is some fabric i purchased from a surplus store in Long Beach, CA. about twenty years ago. It's nylon; it has box type weave to it. I don't think the store is there any longer.

Off to comic con and i just wanted to post a few more pics. i didn't take many under construction shots, but I do have how i laid out the sleeves, the labels sewn in, and the shirt by itself. The previous pictures I posted where I am wearing the jacket is a truer read of the color of the fabric.
