Weebo from "Flubber"

Re: Weebo from "Flubber"

Actually I take that back, photos 3-6 seem completely off, the ears are not accurate and are missed shaped, leds not inset, the flashlight seems to have the blacl details roughly painted on... And the two halves don't line up well either. I wonder if this one was a quick prototype/proof of concept to give an idea of weebo preproduction. Or they could be stunt props...

Another shot from those prop masters is here.. They said on their site that it is had a dimension of 10", I would assume that's diameter. But they also said only 2 were made, theirs and the one on display at epcot. I read that the epcot one is a reproduction and clearly Adam has another and states he had a part in quiet a few.

Interesting, the fins don't seem to sit flush in their holes on those images, but do from the one used onscreen.

Is there any behind the scenes footage of this thing in use on set? I presume it wasn't added after but was mounted on a rig that was edited out in post.

Verrrry cool!

Now can anyone identify the lens used? The one that lights up blue and can retract back into the head? You can see more of it in this photo...

Also where would you source the black corrugated tubing that is between the main body and silver "flying section" looks almost what some people wear with stormtrooper armour on their necks.

I'm pretty sure this thread is going to be the holy grail for anyone who wants to build a Weebo replica, myself included. I await updates with great anticipation!

Ok, So here is the flash used by Weebo when taking a picture of Robin Williams and Flubber. Now I am sure this is just some piece that is not actually a flash, but I hope to recreate it as a flash.. What I did notice here.. Is the LEDs are NOT inset on this scene... Look here (lines up with the Weebo from Prop Masters)

This is a flash from, like, the 1970's. I actually remember these. I just google images "1970's camera flash". The problem is....these were one-time-use flashes.

--------------- edit ------------------

Just went to eBay and searched "GE magicubes" you can get these cheap to use as a size reference.

Ah very cool.. Now I'll have to try to get a standard flash tube inside one of those... Good info!

from what i remember the GE cubes had super sharp edges....but it looks like weebo has the rounder edge cubes made by sylvania:

Now here are some shots of her ears open and closed along with the top screen. You can see that they are hinged on that ring of metal that passes a third of the way through the ears from the rear. That part stays stationary as the ear flaps and pivots from that point. I plan on having mine open the same with servos on the inside. See here...

Also the top screen portion hinges similar on two mounts.

Here is another shot of the screen when it is off.. I would assume the video were added later digitally, but I plan to have a working LCD and videos on mine.

UPDATE! I AM VERRRRY EXCITED ABOUT THIS!

So I thought of a "cherry on top" idea for Weebo and took a plunge and tried it. And what do you know.. it worked. My Weebo will be able to take a picture AND PRINT it all by herself. This is done using a Raspberry Pi, LG Pocket Printer and a Raspi Camera. This is not very documented, but you can send the printer images from the rasp pi.. So Weebo can take Polaroid style photos! This is exciting! I just need to code it to happen all automatically and have her talk all at the same time.

Here are some examples!! One of Flubber from the movie and One of myself. All taken from the RasPi

So while I wait for Adam to send some dimensions, I went ahead and started doing some rough estimations based on a couple things. One, the Red and Green LEDs. These only come in a couple sizes. And also the fact that Prop Masters listed a generic dimension of 10 inches on their site for Weebo. Originally I assumed the LEDs were standard 5mm LEDs. But when I used that as a size reference in the photo.. Weebo was only around 5 inches. But now that means 10mm LEDs would align with the Prop Masters dimension of 10 Inches (That is if they are talking about diameter). I left a circle of a 5mm in the photo for reference. At 10" almost every other dimension landed on decently even numbers. I always thought of 10mm LEDs to be way to big, but looking closer, that may be what was used.

Oh it hurts me every time I see weebo smashed this is cool really liking this thread already makes me miss my toy one I had I'm going to try to find me another one but they are getting rare and hard to find I was lucky to find that one on ebay so if you want something to go by this would be a nice one to have even just to collect can't wait to see more progress looking cool so far really the pic taking part you got working.
