V3: Production Version Build

I kind of throw my hands up on this one.

There was clearly no tape on the neck of the V3, when filming in England:

But...there could have been tape applied when they got to the US. There is clearly tape (painted over) on the neck of the V3 now...or is that just a very poorly done cast and seam line? I just don’t know...

I'm just saying, this new pic... that isn't the V3. None of the paint matches, there's gaffer tape on the neck... everything says V2 to me save for the emitter face.

The fact the V2 had a cut off blade in it's emitter actually goes with what I am saying-- that a different emitter was used altogether.

I have no evidence of course-- just that that is literally what I see-- the V2 with a different, bladed emitter.

I don't see anything that says V3, other than a blade being attached.

I say v3 because of the color on the windvane

The paint chips on the top of the ring section is too bare to be related to the v2 in this picture

If they took the v2 apart, I don’t think it would have gone back together

Like what I’m trying to say is.. if they switched out the emitter I doubt they would have put the dented emitter back on

It sure is a brain teaser though isn’t it..

Looks like the same two blade plugs to me here..

Also check out how much paint is missing on the top of the ring section on both pictures


It’s not much, but I’m willing to bet my life on it that it is the v3 on Endor

I'm more convinced you're right seeing those side by side-- though I still see gaffer's tape.

It it possible that the fighting stunt on the Endor shots is the Yuma saber. It would make sense since it was shot in the USA.

I'm thinking England shots = v2 belt hanger + v3 fighting
USA shots = v2 belt hanger + Yuma fighting

Then Yuma gets a makeover for close up inserts. = v1 hero

The windvane paint looks a lot darker than the Yuma, but it does make some sense.

I have no doubts this is the v3 on Endor. The emitter is far larger, and the nipple doesn’t match the Yuma nip

Plus the top ring section has the same weathering seen in the other picture

Not saying it’s not possible, I just truly believe that is the v3 we are looking at

Well the only thing it definitely isn’t is the V2...based upon the clean, paintless emitter face, and the non-warped / non-dented emitter balance pipe (emitter face).

If this isn’t the Yuma, then the conclusion is that tape was added to the V3 neck when it got to the US (there is no tape on the V3 neck in the pics from the Death Star duel) and the remaining paint on the emitter face was completely removed by that time as well.

That sounds very plausable. Remember Vadermania told us there isn't copper tape on there today, its uncleaned flash from the original cast.

Yeah I’m sure the tape was pulled off in the renovation of the V3

Thank the gods the V2 fell into private hands and was unmolested, unlike the V3, in its post-production life.

I love this thread! I really want to do a V2/V3 hybrid and I’m hoping to find some tips on making a dirty-looking copper neck. I was hoping that someone here might have the perfect formula! halliwax?
