Tron Legacy Costume

I'd start with the tutorials on adafruit.com and sparkfun.com. As well as Studying Electronics. This thread also has some good tips and tricks in it. Are you looking to use individual LEDs or LED strips? Individual LEDs will make it easier to make a fancier designs but will require more soldering and parts.

Thanks! Ill check these out.
I want to use individual LEDs, the strips I've seen have LEDs too spaced out. Plus who knows what project is in the future, better to learn it from the basics.

If you're willing to buy online, LED strips are available in densities as high as 120 leds/meter. Do an google image search for "120 leds per meter" to see pictures of the spacing.

For individual LEDs, look for tutorials on the "LED ladder" style light saber designs. The LEDs are literally stacked on top of each other. I don't think it's possible to get LEDs any closer together than those.

Note: Make sure you insulate the LEDs properly. LEDs unlike EL Wire or waterproof LED strips don't have a protective sleeve or coating. Unless your helmet is very well ventilated, sweating and breathing can cause moisture to build up in it and short out your lights.

Actually, SMD LED strips can come fully coated with an IP66 rating (fully immersible in water with no I'll effects, just make sure the conetions are sealed properly):

Not sure if the 120 LEDs per meter come with a coating, but it's worth asking the vendors first.

Hmmm, I'll need to look into coating/insulating them, not confident in my helmets ventilation. It has some, but definitely not enough to stop me from sweating.
Thanks again, keep em coming if you think of anything else :D all is appreciated.

@bsal: How do you plan on diffusing your LEDs? With the right diffusion, the spacing between the lights become less of a problem.

The note about insulation is for bare LEDs (or non-waterproof strips) should bsal continue on that route. 120 led/m strips are available with ip66 coating.

PS: The ip66 coating provides an extra 1-2mm gap between the actual LED smd and anything laid on top of the strip, which will help with diffusion.

Check this line of wetsuits from 2XU, someone's a Tron fan in the design team by the looks

Excellent base for converting into an uprising costume.

hi guys ive been on here for a while but never really done any projects i posted a couple of pics on here a while back of a custom program and have decided to have another go at tron costuming for the cons this year. On my blog i posted a couple of ideas for what tron could look like in tr3n and i was thinking about trying to construct this any tips / tricks ive missed out on in the last year :S lol

looking good! keep pushing it further! I think TR3N costumes will be more simplistic looking than Legacy. simplistic is futuristic. It's fun to think about what the next story will be about...

I wonder if you could stitch spandex panels into that suit for cooling?
Never tried sewing neoprene before...

It has been done, a member posted about it somewhere in this vast thread for his LED based Sam costume. The only trouble is the neoprene can lose its shape if the spandex isn't sewn on partially stretched to take up the slack.

A neater method could be to punch a gridwork of small holes in key places (preferably hexagonal), then strengthen it with spandex on the inside to help retain it's shape.

What's a good price for an already modded deluxe identity disc? $100.00 shipped?

Modded in what fashion?

I believe Soul inertia offers his fully modded, dual light
system discs for around 200 I think? You can buy the
kit and install it yourself for maybe 150 including base disc.
