Yeah, that always bugs me too, but from what I understand, it's something of a necessity. If they don't have the lights then the actors'
faces might be too dark for the cameras to "film". But it would be nice if they tried to hide the lights better or remove them in post.
BTW…the number of Hollywood stars who publicly state that they had to learn how to actually drive / operate a car—for the first time—for a film role is very strange.
It's an American thing that everybody has been driving since they were 16. It's not so universal in Europe & SE Asia. They have older/denser cities with real public transpo.
Even in America it's more of a red-state thing. You can live in NYC or Chicago or SF for years without a license.

DarkHelmet I would imagine they have a lot of handlers in black making sure the actors aren't walking into things. It would be a near perfect blindness.
