The Wand Company TOS Tricorder is coming!

It's great to see a new announcement from Wand and though it didn't answer alot of questions. It's still forward momentum and signs things are coming along slowly, but nicely. The pictures of manufacturing are always a huge plus. You gotta love the attention to detail truly going all out. Hopefully more announcements to follow as they progress in the run. Just excited like everyone!!

TWC's email was such a nice thing to wake up to. When I could finally afford to replace my DST tric and began looking at my options, it felt like kismet to have this announced. The project hasn't gone too terribly smoothly, but I'm still holding out for this and not getting a "good enough" prop that'll go unloved once this gets here. I can wait, as long as I know there's something to wait for. :)

I've done two cross-country moves since the project began, though... will I hit a fourth state before pre-orders open? :p

FYI…if you did not receive the latest email, then I believe that it means that you are no longer in line to receive a Tricorder as it indicates that they likely have forgotten about you.

I would say it’s time to hit the panic button if you don’t see the latest update in your inbox.

I didn’t get the emails, anyone else have that problem? my email is funky though, double dot format xxx@xxx.xx.com I used to get emails from them but no longer. Had to re-register for pre-order with an AOL email I keep in reserve, I got that email

You may have to dig around in your spam & adjust your filter settings. My email got shunted into a "promos" subfolder instead of the main inbox, and I had to manually mark Wand Company emails as being inbox-worthy. That hadn't happened with any of their previous emails, so I think something in the text of this one is triggering spam filters.

I am flat-out amazed by the dedication they've shown to this project. I mean, tooling ain't cheap, and they scrapped the hood tooling to get the texture right. That could be anything from a five- to six-figure decision, depending on the tool. I can't wait to get this thing in my hot little Cuban Trekkie hands.
All this tooling just for the hood and battery compartment part. And they scrapped it because the kydex pattern wasn’t just right.

I need these guys to tackle the TNG and DS9/VOY era tricorders. Need it.
And if the Running Press mini version is any indication, the electronics would be dirt cheap when manufactured at scale... they got nearly all the components of a TNG tric on a single PCB with SMLEDs with an MSRP of like $12. TWC could sleepwalk through the development of a MkVII after doing the TOS.

The only issue would be stuffing real-world functionality inside it, IMO.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but 80,000 data discs means a production run of 10,000 tricorders. That feels like a substantial run. Does anyone know the run figures on the phaser and communicator?
