It's great news. The let down on Wand's Phaser and Communicator (mainly the Phaser) were the cheaper, dull parts they used... I hope they don't do the same and spoil the look of the Tricorder. The next Star Trek prop is coming from The Wand Company and I am super GEEKED about it! They're finally doing a TOS Tricorder! This news couldn't come at a better time since I've been sniffing around ebay, trying to pick up an MR version for less than $1,000, which is not an easy task...
Anyway, I have the MR and TWC versions of the Phaser and Communicator and I've been very impressed at TWC quality in comparison. For the money, TWC offers some damn good replicas.
Here's the announcement with a link to receive updates...

Supposedly $250.00I'm curious about the price point.
I dont think I’ve ever heard anyone call TWC Phaser cheap. It's great news. The let down on Wand's Phaser and Communicator (mainly the Phaser) were the cheaper, dull parts they used... I hope they don't do the same and spoil the look of the Tricorder.
Not the phaser itself, some of the parts usedI dont think I’ve ever heard anyone call TWC Phaser cheap.
Those parts were going to be aluminum and the handle was going to attach via a twist lock but the price was going to be $200 and retailers balked. They told Wand they didn't feel they would sell at that price. In order to bring down the cost Wand had to make changes. Not the phaser itself, some of the parts used
I agree they're a great company, I knew that the factory messed up the dimensions for the handle but I didn't know they were forced to make changes too. Personally I would have paid the $200 for it... retailers eh. I'd love to have mine modified but unfortunately I have neither the tools nor the experience in modifying something like this, all 4 of my communicators are modded but the phaser remains as is. If anyone knows of anyone who can put hero parts on for a price please do let me know. Those parts were going to be aluminum and the handle was going to attach via a twist lock but the price was going to be $200 and retailers balked. They told Wand they didn't feel they would sell at that price. In order to bring down the cost Wand had to make changes.
Considering that I think Wand did a fantastic job. Right out of the box the Wand phaser is a great replica.
For the hobbyist the phaser can be modified to improve the accuracy.
wand is great company that listens to the fans. They make great products for a great price. Count me as a fan.
