The Wand Company TOS Tricorder is coming!

Can somebody provide the HTS (harmonized tariff schedule) ten digit code for the tricorder? My wife works in customs brokerage and she can provide the standard duty rate and check to see what additional tariffs would currently apply.

I used to do this for a college and I grabbed the HTS codes from the vendor sales department as they tend to know the best.

It might be a long shot but I emailed TWC customer support. These usually go to Charlotte Pegrum and she’s always been pretty helpful.

Hi Chris:

Is there a cutoff number of the amount of the Tricorders that you will be selling? In other words, Will there be a certain limited amount initially produced? After this production runs out and/or are all sold out, will more Tricorders be produced and sold in the future? Or, will this be a “limited issue” production?

In the future, if these are all sold out, will there be more upgraded/updated Tricorders later produced? And also, will future library discs be updated and/or added to the library?

Thanks!
~Tom

We are producing an initial amount of Tricorders. If demand is strong enough to warrant a second production run then we will make more. In that respect, this is not a production run, limited to a certain arbitrary number. If we produce more Tricorders in the future they are likely to be exactly the same. The discs have a mechanical play value and do not in themselves store information, they are meant to look as though they store information, but are merely used to trigger the different Tricorder functions.

I have faith in this. It’s happening, No money was asked for up front (we have seen that on preorders in the past) and it has a spot next to my Wand Phaser and Communicator when it arrives. I can’t imagine how hard this is to do and get into production but they have been upfront and just delivered a pipboy. Folks are not happy with the time table but I honestly have to say the fan base sometimes leave much to be desired on prop replicas. There I’ve said it. If folks were out money….. by all means but that is not the case here. Clearly. GC

Hi Jim,

Thanks for reaching out.

We'll get back to you as soon as we know this but we're really busy at the moment, so it may take a little while.

I have made a note to come back to you Jim.

Kindest
Charlotte

Chris Barnardo's Post about the Wand Phaser !
Hi, it was never $50. The original Phaser we made retailed at $150. Even at that price, it was not a particularly profitable product for us. Yes I agree we have the tooling, but a handful of the electrical components have end-of-lifed since then and replacements would be a small redesign, which would mean at least a modification of some of the tooling, at worst, some new tooling for some of the internal structures. Then there is the minimum order quantity (MOQ). Our factory set the MOQ at 10,000 units... the quantity that they needed to set up the manufacturing line and that many of the subsuppliers needed for them to set up the manufacture of the different metal parts. Since the Phaser was made the price of everything has increased and it is likely that the cost of a new Phaser run, if it could be done, would be more like $200. Finally, there is the retailer buy-in. We need retailers to be confident in the product and for them to order enough for the project to make sense for us. We are in discussions with various retailers about the Phaser and have been since they stopped ordering it from us. If at any point we get enough interest, we will do some sums and work out if it makes commercial sense to make another run of Phasers... Personally, I would love to do just that! Until then, and possibly never, that is one of the nice things about a collectible... if you are lucky enough to be the collector that has it, and that is its resale value. Case in point the tricorder... it is likely to be around the $300 point when we release it, but we will only make it for a limited time, so each fan has to decide whether or not they can afford it when we make them. I hope that they will be a big success and that given the investment we have made in it, we will be able to do a second run of them later... but who knows?
That post was from 2023.

So can we assume that at least 10,000 tricorders will be built?

The fan base can be a little entitled at times…
