The 89 MattMobile Build Thread.

Well i'll be , i thought those were true unibodies too. I was wondering why you wouldn't have used a small pickup frame or something. So why did you cut the B pillars? Just had to test those new saw blades out didn't you? Haha

Passenger side wheel well got a good work over today. Nice!

The car is a unibody construction. Part of the support structure is the roof and A pillars. If you cut off the upper half, the car will likely sag in the center. I might have missed the part where you already reinforced the floor pan or the car is going to be stretched. Nagging Nelly mode off. I sure you know what you are doing, I just didnt want the thread of awesome to have a hiccup. A clean garage is a sign of a sick mind.
Quit typing. You are making me embarassed for you.

:lol:lol Nice, kid....and embarrassed has two R's

Looks like I sit corrected. From your friends pic it is a body on frame. For some reason I always thought the me 90 Chevys were unibody.

Every time I pull up behind a "dually" pick up truck I always wonder why no one ever used the frame from one of those.

A couple nibbles on parts selling, but nothing yet. If I don't see some action within the next week or two, I'm just going to take the parts down to the dump. My garage is filling up pretty quickly with parts!

I think for SOME cars, there is a big aftermarket for used parts. Like the pontiac fiero. But the Caprice was a pretty well distributed car, and I suspect people don't want to buy beaten up used parts when they can get good condition ones elsewhere. Not a big deal really, and making money on parts was never a required part of my plan. The hassle involved also has a big cost for me. For example, if you tell me I have to deal with fifty lunatics who are going to want to come to my house at weird hours to pick up parts tha I'll make a few hundred bucks on total, I'd rather just toss them into a dumpster.

Do you have any auto dismantlers in the area? Probably not as common in an urban area, but we have an entire boulevard of toyota, Honda, Chevy, etc. If I had a dismantled car, I would give the Chevy dismantler a call and talk to them about all the spare parts: Bumpers, fenders, interior, etc. Even if you don't make any money from it, they might just haul it away for you. My $0.02.

Have you purchased the body kit yet? Does it come as one piece, and you must cut as desired, or does the hood, trunk, and canopy come separate?

Try your luck out on a Caprice forum. I'm sure you'll have better luck on there than craigslist. The only problem is that you would probably have to ship out the parts.

Also I have no idea if this has been brought up and there are too many pages to sift through but if you're going to extend the frame in the rear then you'll need a longer driveshaft unless you just add it on to the front in which case you would have to modify your steering.

I started pulling out the dash today. I'm terrified one of the air bags is going to blow and take my nose off or something.

The interior is now totally stripped. I pulled out the drivers seat today.

yes disconnect battery.. but you got to admit it would make a great youtube video if it did go off... just saying..
