I get what you are saying man. But you are talking about props as if they were human rights or basic human needs. Props are commodities. You know me from Facebook and you see all the stuff I post about the inequality in the system and the economics and how I dont agree with a lot of the things our government does to strangle the working class. However these are props we are talking about.
What I'm reading is the equivalent of me saying: Well I've loved Lamborghinis my whole life. I have Fond memories of my youth talking to my dad about cars and admiring the engineering that goes in to a Lamborghini. Owning one would bring so much joy to my life and to so many other Lamborghini fans. Therefore I believe its wrong for them to only be owned by a small group and I think we should all be able to get one.
Chances are I'm never gonna own a Lamborghini and I'm ok with that. However I know that if I wanted it bad enough, I can focus my efforts in to it, and sure enough there will be a way for me to get one, even if it meant pre owned. But I'm not gonna judge those who worked hard to be able to get one, nor do I think its unfair that they have one and I dont.
You mentioned something about showing things we own and how that leads to jealousy. Also something about the community enjoying these props as a group that helps each other out. Well I think the problems stems from people not knowing how to be happy for someone else's accomplishments. Its like "well if he got it why cant I" instead of " what did he do that I wasn't doing, to achieve what we both wanted".
For example, When Mark CFO got his original ROTJ Stormtrooper helmet, literally at that very moment I had my finger on the bid now button. But that wasnt my focus or priority and I let it go, not knowing Mark was striking a deal for it on his end. I would have loved to get that helmet ( honestly who wouldn't), But I was Happy to see my friend get it. I wasnt jealous. It very deservedly went to the one guy in this hobby who should have gotten it. I cant go at it thinking "well damn, everyone in the hobby should be able to get an original Trooper helmet".
Maybe we should all learn to be decent and honest to each other, feel happy for our fellow collectors accomplishments and work harder for the things we desire.
Hey man I agree with you 100% these props are just commodities you are correct they are not basic needs or human rights and they should be treated as nothing more than commodities.Yet im trying to demonstrate the idea behind these props are also one that happens in the persons mind
unfortunately one cannot separate what a person believes, feels and thinks from these things it seldom just stay's at these things are a object and nothing more
They become status symbols,a showing of wealth or a way for someone to show look at me.and on the flip side there are those who don't attach such feelings to these objects for them they are just basic items why should they be ruled over by some community rule as to what they can do with these silly items. Unfortunately this does play a role in the community it can lead to people not showing there best self's and showing other good people how much they can suck by recasting or only letting the in crowd getting to the good stuff
And by all means I can not be more pleased for You and all the other great guy's who own authentic cast's heck im part of
the club I don't feel bad I worked hard to get the vader items Yes I made great friends like you who helped me and I can't thank you enough
but the same im not just a friend to you because I wanted cool stuff you are a great man
But let me take the Lamborghini analogy and apply it to a situation I am familiar with The owning of Farms in South Africa
In South Africa owning a farm is equal to owning a Lamborghini it is what every young man yearns for and what most of us slave for work our but's off and hopefully one day I will have my own land to turn into a big 5 conservation area to build a small lodge and invite all you guys for a holiday
But unfortunately there are people who will always look at me and say why does he get to own all that land, why does he need it unfortunately people are complicated and although I worked hard to own the land I bought it at great expense some guys will come and poach my animals illegally settle on my land etc I can go the route of putting up defenses and securing my farm and seclude myself but it's not going to get rid of those people out there who either don't want to work as hard as I do or because of many reasons can't get to where I got and it would be easier just to steal is often times the mentality
Thus one way one could fix the problem is somehow reaching a compromise allowing people to work for what they want and to be able to get it
or helping others actively also on their quest making them understand that they too can reach that stage or providing them a better route that going the stealing route
For I get it most of us would be happy in the scenario of CFO getting that helmet most of us would agree with tough luck maybe next time
or if I put in more effort to get it work harder 98% of us are like that and yes I agree no one should be able to say I should get a trooper helmet
But No one should be able to say it feels like there is a secret group of collectors Illuminati who keep the good stuff for them self's and they decide if you are worthy or not ( Yes they decide in good reason who can ) but it's like the government perhaps they actually do make good decisions on our behalf lol
But for some we have to consider they look at us and feel for whatever reason the Vader community is ass hat's
or whatever screw their rules.Or im not going to pay the reasonable price of $2500 for an authentic cast let's support the re caster
Or the rules of the community does not overrule my Constitutional right to do as I please with the item I payed for and own
And this is what I wish to stop I want us all as a community to find away to make people understand the rules
to feel that they too can easily become apart of the authentic collector community and that we as the Vader community is a group of welcoming people and we understand that other's also want to own authentic casts and the incentive to buy legitimate cast's from the legitimate people are greater than to turn to recasting
But there will alway's be an element of **** people who are just that, and for that there is not much one can do
But I do think allowing more authentic cast's to exist and be available to the community can help stop recasting as long as it is done legitimately by the community or info about Vader helmet's to become known that the good people can also know what to look out for in fakes
But it was all a entertaining thought experiment and Im glad to be part of the community I agree hard work should be all that allows one to enjoy the fruits of their love for something in piece but as we go on with life and realisie that **** things like recasting happens I think it helps to openly discus what can lead to such things happening and why and how can we better stop it from happening in a way that really stops it .
As they say a good compromise is one in which both parties are unhappy and perhaps to stop recasting the community will perhaps have to make a unhappy compromise to allow more authentic cast's being made but that is just a thought
I am part of the Authentic cast owner's and im taking my TM to the gave But if there were ever to be more TM'S made or SL'S in a legitimate community approved way I would be happy that others could also have a chance to own authentic cast's and I would celebrate it
