Score of my lifetime. SL ANH Vader face mask.

Honestly I thought one of these authentic casts would cost more than that. Is that just the facemask?

The fee Thomas gave me for a complete SL raw cast was $2,200. I signed the buyers agreement, but had to pass at that moment, as I didn’t have money for it.

A couple of years later, someone sold me their SL copy as they were thinning out their collection. They saw a post I left on the Den and thought I was a good candidate to uphold the SL buyers agreement.

I bought an unfinished TM ESB cast from Keith on the RPF cargo hold for $1,200. I had the money to pay immediately. I had already agreed to the TM buyers agreement for an ANH. The sale went through right away.

I bought a TM ANH faceplate for $800. I had to jump through hoops to get that one - took more than a month for the seller (and the TM owners) to agree to sell me the faceplate, then ship it. I bought EFX ANH Vader Dome for $400, and paired it the TM ANH faceplate.

Some people will try to buy an authentic cast, then turn around and sell it for a profit. Saw someone trying to sell an SL $4,000-5,000. They never cost that much, and that **** just gives the community a bad name.

I haven’t been in this hobby for very long. I literally started collecting in October of 2014. That’s when I started doing my research. By May of 2015, I had an RS Prop Masters ANH TK Bucket, and by June I had the TM ESB. I consider myself wildly lucky.

Overall, the prices vary for these casts, and they’re not nearly as expensive as one might think. You just need to be in good standing with the community - don’t be a dick - be in the right place at the right time, and have money at the ready to buy when a opportunity comes along.

If you find a true ILM cast pulled directly from the RB mold, or the UK production mold, obviously the price goes up. Like. WAY up.

A UK production mold ESB helmet was up for auction, and a group of us pooled money together to grab it for Mark at CFO. I think we could bid as high as $18,000 USD. It sold for much higher than that. We certainly gave it a go, but there are collectors out there with deep pockets who want the originals — which why they’re so hard to come by.

I just got word through pm that Strider is looking to sell is "other" SL

Ugh, I’m gutted for you. Not just because these things don’t come cheap, but because the excitement involved with tracking down a rare find like this was supposed to be is often palpable for the rest of us.

And selfishly, as someone who knows far less about Vader than you (though I’m sure you’ll downplay your own knowledge), it’s a bit alarming that such a deception could have been done so openly, on the Den of all places. It gives me pause about how one would ever know for sure whether something was the genuine article, or not. I suppose there’s some way to do so by consulting with trusted individuals, which I gather is how you found out about your mask in this case. Your case shows why it’s good that some details remain somewhat unknown publicly, I think.

Perhaps there’s some small consolation in the fact that yours is still a very impressive Vader collection, and was even before you’d acquired this piece.

Out of curiosity (and really, none of my business, but,) are you planning to keep searching for an SL, after this? And if so, would you keep this recast piece? I’m not asking to buy it, just curious- I know some would probably want to hang onto it regardless, while others would always feel an unpleasant sting when looking at it, and would be happy to be rid of it. I think I’d probably fall in the former camp, keeping it as sort of a reminder or a mark of progress, in the learning about all of this stuff. And something to display next to the genuine article, someday, to see if friends and casual observers could tell a difference. ;)

Thanks for the compliments. I do intend to keep the cast.

@Darth Africanus

I get what you are saying man. But you are talking about props as if they were human rights or basic human needs. Props are commodities. You know me from Facebook and you see all the stuff I post about the inequality in the system and the economics and how I dont agree with a lot of the things our government does to strangle the working class. However these are props we are talking about.

What I'm reading is the equivalent of me saying: Well I've loved Lamborghinis my whole life. I have Fond memories of my youth talking to my dad about cars and admiring the engineering that goes in to a Lamborghini. Owning one would bring so much joy to my life and to so many other Lamborghini fans. Therefore I believe its wrong for them to only be owned by a small group and I think we should all be able to get one.

Chances are I'm never gonna own a Lamborghini and I'm ok with that. However I know that if I wanted it bad enough, I can focus my efforts in to it, and sure enough there will be a way for me to get one, even if it meant pre owned. But I'm not gonna judge those who worked hard to be able to get one, nor do I think its unfair that they have one and I dont.

You mentioned something about showing things we own and how that leads to jealousy. Also something about the community enjoying these props as a group that helps each other out. Well I think the problems stems from people not knowing how to be happy for someone else's accomplishments. Its like "well if he got it why cant I" instead of " what did he do that I wasn't doing, to achieve what we both wanted".

For example, When Mark CFO got his original ROTJ Stormtrooper helmet, literally at that very moment I had my finger on the bid now button. But that wasnt my focus or priority and I let it go, not knowing Mark was striking a deal for it on his end. I would have loved to get that helmet ( honestly who wouldn't), But I was Happy to see my friend get it. I wasnt jealous. It very deservedly went to the one guy in this hobby who should have gotten it. I cant go at it thinking "well damn, everyone in the hobby should be able to get an original Trooper helmet".

Maybe we should all learn to be decent and honest to each other, feel happy for our fellow collectors accomplishments and work harder for the things we desire.

Hey man I agree with you 100% these props are just commodities you are correct they are not basic needs or human rights and they should be treated as nothing more than commodities.Yet im trying to demonstrate the idea behind these props are also one that happens in the persons mind
unfortunately one cannot separate what a person believes,feels and thinks from these things it seldom just stay's at these things are a object and nothing more

They become status symbols,a showing of wealth or a way for someone to show look at me.and on the flip side there are those who don't attach such feelings to these objects for them they are just basic items why should they be ruled over by some community rule as to what they can do with these silly items. Unfortunately this does play a role in the community it can lead to people not showing there best self's and showing other good people how much they can suck by recasting or only letting the in crowd getting to the good stuff

And by all means I can not be more pleased for You and all the other great guy's who own authentic cast's heck im part of
the club I don't feel bad I worked hard to get the vader items Yes I made great friends like you who helped me and I can't thank you enough
but the same im not just a friend to you because I wanted cool stuff you are a great man

But let me take the Lamborghini analogy and apply it to a situation I am familiar with The owning of Farms in South Africa
In South Africa owning a farm is equal to owning a Lamborghini it is what every young man yearns for and what most of us slave for work our but's off and hopefully one day I will have my own land to turn into a big 5 conservation area to build a small lodge and invite all you guys for a holiday

But unfortunately there are people who will always look at me and say why does he get to own all that land,why does he need it unfortunately people are complicated and although I worked hard to own the land I bought it at great expense some guys will come and poach my animals illegally settle on my land etc I can go the route of putting up defenses and securing my farm and seclude myself but it's not going to get rid of those people out there who either don't want to work as hard as I do or because of many reasons can't get to where I got and it would be easier just to steal is often times the mentality

Thus one way one could fix the problem is somehow reaching a compromise allowing people to work for what they want and to be able to get it
or helping others actively also on their quest making them understand that they too can reach that stage or providing them a better route that going the stealing route

For I get it most of us would be happy in the scenario of CFO getting that helmet most of us would agree with tough luck maybe next time
or if I put in more effort to get it work harder 98% of us are like that and yes I agree no one should be able to say I should get a trooper helmet
But No one should be able to say it feels like there is a secret group of collectors Illuminati who keep the good stuff for them self's and they decide if you are worthy or not ( Yes they decide in good reason who can ) but it's like the government perhaps they actually do make good decisions on our behalf lol

But for some we have to consider they look at us and feel for whatever reason the Vader community is ass hat's
or whatever screw their rules.Or im not going to pay the reasonable price of $2500 for an authentic cast let's support the re caster
Or the rules of the community does not overrule my Constitutional right to do as I please with the item I payed for and own

And this is what I wish to stop I want us all as a community to find away to make people understand the rules
to feel that they too can easily become apart of the authentic collector community and that we as the Vader community is a group of welcoming people and we understand that other's also want to own authentic casts and the incentive to buy legitimate cast's from the legitimate people are greater than to turn to recasting

But there will alway's be an element of **** people who are just that, and for that there is not much one can do
But I do think allowing more authentic cast's to exist and be available to the community can help stop recasting as long as it is done legitimately by the community or info about Vader helmet's to become known that the good people can also know what to look out for in fakes

But it was all a entertaining thought experiment and Im glad to be part of the community I agree hard work should be all that allows one to enjoy the fruits of their love for something in piece but as we go on with life and realisie that **** things like recasting happens I think it helps to openly discus what can lead to such things happening and why and how can we better stop it from happening in a way that really stops it .
As they say a good compromise is one in which both parties are unhappy and perhaps to stop recasting the community will perhaps have to make a unhappy compromise to allow more authentic cast's being made but that is just a thought

I am part of the Authentic cast owner's and im taking my TM to the gave But if there were ever to be more TM'S made or SL'S in a legitimate community approved way I would be happy that others could also have a chance to own authentic cast's and I would celebrate it

Just throwing it out there since my PM's to Juan are going unanswered. I'm in the market for a SL or an RB casting.
I've been here since GF introduced me to this place in December 1999. I would hope that many senior / long standing members could verify my sincerity and reputation within the community. So, if anyone's considering letting one go or knows of a run coming up. Please PM me. Thanks!
Chris

I also believe that Shadow FX is recasting a DJ helmet if I am correct in assuming that

You could try contacting Mike Warren on Facebook he does the DJ ANH castings which are from the RB mold they are available now
to everyone thanks to Darth Jones and Mike making them available Mike's handle on the RPF is VaderMonkey to contact him here

Hey vader45 ! Congrats on the Vader mask purchase! Is that some sort of velcro attachment at top (the 3 little screwed on strips)? That totally sucks that it arrived broken! High dollar purchases should be better shipped than that! Double boxed and NO PEANUTS for certain, they just don't work.

Without going too deep into it, can someone clue me in to the prodgeny of the Darth Vader Helmets from A New Hope.

There's a lot of abreviations and I haven't figured them all out yet and I'm getting a bit lost in trying to follow along.

RB = Rick Baker
TM = Tom M (edited thanks teecrooz!) = Original owner of a cast from... which is also the cast CFO used?)
CFO = Cast From Original
SL = SithLord
DJ = Darth Jones

Who/what's...

GS = Greg S (edited, thanks again!) = Current owner of the TM casting.)

... and what's the order from either original molds or castings from screen used helmets?

(edit: I rearranged the order a bit, if I'm understanding the lineage correctly anyway.)

TM stands for the original owner. They are Tom‘s initials and not TrooperMaster. Tom is still active here. vadermania

GS is for Greg S. who owns that casting. He isn’t an active member here from what I’ve seen.

Hi,

haven't really been on the forums for a while - apart from moaning on the eFX biker scout helmet thread once in a blue moon.

SL Vader helmets are a blast from the past for me.

I still own number 1 from the very first run. Never ever did get it finished up it is still a raw cast. It is in storage somewhere. Will have to dig it out one day.

I had no idea you owned #1. That is pretty awesome!

I am interested in another Vader helmet. How does one contact Mike Warren on Facebook? There's like 15 of them on Facebook. Ha.

Mike Warren is Vadermonkey? Ah. I've reached out to him on the Prop Den. I've had no luck getting through.

Jump on Facebook. Find a Vader FB group, find Mike Warren, shoot him a PM. He’s making a killer ANH Vader from the DJ cast - which was originally pulled from the RB mold.

It’s the best ANH Vader available.

He’s also making the best ESB Vader at the moment.

If you haven’t reached VaderMonkey on the Den, it’s probably because the Den has been pretty quiet for a good bit.

I have a SL cast and I don't think I'd ever part with it. It was so hard to get and to be honest is one of the most amazing props I own. I never had the nuts to paint it and honestly love it in raw form. I don't want to cover the awesome details. SL said he would sell me another to paint. I just couldn't pay another arm and leg to get it. Wish I did though especially how things have gone.

***** me though that it's being recast. THIS IS WHY WE CANT HAVE NICE THINGS!!!!!

Ben

For those who may know is Mike still taking orders for DJ casts or do I have to wait on another run? The Prop Den thread says run closed.

I think he is doing them now as the orders come in don't take my word on that you can ask him
but it does seem like he he takes orders on the ANH stuff
