Prometheus (Post-release)

I will say it has been almost a year since release and you are still talking about it, so it definitely has your attention.

Well, it's been more than a decade since Battlefield Earth was released and that movie still has my attention. You don't see me being all philosophical about with it's horridness. And yet with all it's disastrous flaws, I would still watch that piece of junk over Prometheus anytime anywhere.... WITH ENDLESS OPTIONS FOR RENEWAL!

Where are all your recent comments on the Battlefield Earth thread?

How many years doesn't it take for you to stop talking about something you don't think about?

Just put Shaw on the Paradise planet and have the Engineers fighting massive amounts of bastardized Xenos...

Then a jockey jumps inside the suit and tries to escape but crashes on....LV426:eek

Thought Id do my list of the alien films. I was pretty active as a fan until AvP was released.

1. Alien
2. Alien 3 and Prometheus
4. Aliens (was my fav when I was a kid though, I also thought Arnold was awesome)
5. Alien Res

That sounds about right

I agree, Aliens used to be my favorite as well when I was kid, and made Alien seem a bit boring. As I've grown though, Aliens holds less appeal for me

In my opinion, Alien Resurrection was really the only movie in the franchise that just totally sucked. Alien 3 wasn't as great as Alien, but I enjoyed it.

AvP was just beyond awful. I don't even consider it part of the franchise

Lest we forget AVP Requiem. The worst incarnation of them all.

Good god. The budget must have been so tight they couldn't hire a lighting director. The movie was filmed in pitch black.

First of all, don't hate. I have a 2-year old and it's very hard to see all the movies I would like to see when they first come out (parents probably understand that, ha!)

I bought a pre-viewed Prometheus Blu-Ray at Blockbuster and watched it for the first time last night on my home theater and I have to say I thoroughly loved it. I knew there wouldn't be the big baddie aliens throughout and that it was indeed the precursor to the other films. Regardless, it was very well done, was not boring at all, visuals were beautifully done, story was great, too.

I'm very much looking forward to part II. That was one of the few sci-fi movies I was happily surprised by. Just because it doesn't have all the creepy aliens in it doesn't mean it sucks (those who expected that somehow from a sort of origins film).

The end was very cool and gave me goosebumps. Another awesome film, Ridley Scott!

(y)thumbsup

Show me a robot scientist or a Vulcan and I will believe you. Show me a human and you will be hard pressed to convince me they don't go into the situation believing something and then trying to prove or disprove it. And of course you can only disprove something, but again, that is purely scientific thinking and I don' think most are truly capable of it.

Have you known many serious academics, especially in the sciences? I have mates in molecular biology and one in astrophysics - I can't really describe the horror with which he'd react if anyone suggested something of the sort about his work. E.g. he's at odds with other folk in his field for accepting a 'good enough' method of conducting fluid dynamic simulations which he feels is biased.

Sure, there are some who are pushing a barrow; that's human nature. Some of them are overt and even become well-known for it, like Ian Plimer and his like. I think there are far more very earnest people who would just about die if they produced 'bad results', because that's the culture and training and the whole world they move in.

LOL. Hey, with all the religious overtones to the movie and the fact that we were created in the image of the Engineers, that is entirely plausible... I don' think it is going to happen, but it is plausible.

A man can dream, a man can dream. :lol I know a guy in the biz who has actually talked about having a go at pushing it in that direction. I wish him luck but he won't get within a million miles of it if Ridley is still attached. How do you pitch a new direction which basically amounts to telling the boss 'your premise sucks!!!'? :lol

I think I will rep him for you because it made me look at ALIENS in an entirely different way!

:lol Thank you!

So, just finished up ALIENS, one of my all time favorite movies. Thanks, guys. You have ruined it for me forever! :lol

Heh. It's a cheesy, crappy film in a lot of ways. In 1986 it blew me away, but I was a kid. I cooled on it long ago. Kevin actually made me LIKE it more than I did! :lol I've subscribed to a bit of a hater bandwagon there, really. The cheesy lines are kinda satirical, maybe...

Did you spot the metal armature inside the Queen's neck (gaping wide open) in that one over-lightened shot? I can't unsee that. :lol

I know this is a bit of grave digging but,

I never saw a trailer or discussed this movie with anybody. I only knew the title and that it was Sci-Fi, that's it. I saw a post by Art (I don't remember where) saying this was a movie that inspired thoughtful conversation and that caught my interest. So on a whim at the video store I picked it up, here's me at the counter..
Clerk: Prometheus, cool movie!
Me: I haven't seen it but it seemed interesting.
Clerk: yeah it's great, did you know it's a prequel to Alien?
Me: No....:facepalm ...I didn't :behave

I just saw the 1st 2 Alien movies for the 1st time earlier this year, and I really enjoyed this movie! :thumbsup :cool
Like Art said it does inspire some cerebral discussions! :D I'll probably end up buying it along with Alien and Aliens :cool

:lol You get a pass on this but only because you posted the cool Jonesy Vid! :lol

A blast from the past!!! My favorite thread rises like an engineer from a two thousand year old sleep and throws a wobbly!!!

The most interesting news I read recently was the script for the sequel had finished , but was unlikely to start filming anytime in the next two years, late twenty sixteen being a possible nearest date. It will be interesting to see how "Trancendance" turns out because its the same writer. Strangely, if you watch the trailer there are certain brief images that do seem similar to Prometheus. I always felt there was a company AI tracking and manipulating the whole behind the scenes attempt to contact the "Alien" civilizations, no human could have lived that long and directed operations unless it was an upload of Weylands personality or directives.
