Re: Free Paper Prop Thread #4 - 2009

In T2, the cops show Sarah some photos taken from security cameras at the police station. You may want to try to screengrab some of those.

What does everyone use to print their paper props?
It seems no matter what program I use, I can never get anything to print the size or way I want it to. I've tried exporting images to Word, used paint and the MS picture viewer, as well as gimp and they all seem to want to print the stuff however they want to, regardless of the way it looks in print preview.

I too have the same issues...I just keep practicing and refilling the ink cartridges!!!:unsure

Re: Free Paper Prop Thread #4 - 2009

Wow! I'm getting a lot of feedback on this.

Outlander- First off, wow, dude! You do give a lot of feedback and some interesting points. I'd like to address some of them the best I can and I don't mean any offense with my replies. If any of these issues are problems with this particular paper prop, then I'll be more than happy to see what I can do to correct them.

My belief is that the camera would have been identified as a surveilance camera rather than a "hidden" camera. L.E. Agencies are engaged in enforcing the law, they don't "hide" anything. If you didn't notice their "low profile" surveilance equipment, tough luck on you.

Okay, my mistake here. I needed an explanation for the use of this photo I found for the shot since the camera is at normal height. My thought process sort of kicked in, and I recalled in the movie "Dawn of the Dead" (1979), they had a scene that took place in the bank within the mall. And the surveillance camera didn't take video, but an actual picture. Granted, the police had video cameras in the station (i.e. the footage of Reese in the interview with Silverman), but I think that, like all technology, there'd be some sort of transition period where a still frame security camera would still be used behind the desk to take pictures of anyone who shows up before it was switched to video. And to say it was "hidden" would have also accounted for the height of the shot in comparison to the other, canon, pictures from the security cameras (i.e. the ones from "Terminator 2"). Of course, that's just my thought process to explain the picture (at least to myself). I don't know if they make sense to other people.

I believe that the F.B.I. would protect the identity of the stalking victim and not recount her name in the crime description.

Well, that sort of goes against canon don't you think? I mean, in the movie, the Police release the names of the first two victims in hopes of getting Sarah to call them. So, basically, it'd be common knowledge in the L.A. area anyway. Also, they would only use "Sarah Connor" and not Sarah's full name (which is Sarah Jeanette Connor). So, by saying "Sarah Connor", they do not directly name the lead character of the film. Plus, I used the wording "a third victim" because I felt it would keep it ambiguous within the story world ("a third victim" could mean "another woman named Sarah Connor" or it could mean "another victim" of the Terminator whose name may not be Sarah Connor). But if this is a troublesome issue, I'll be more than happy to correct it. :)

I believe if it were "the following suspect" that paragraph would appear before the photos on the poster, not after.

I will admit, I'm not basing this poster off a real FBI poster. When I used Yahoo! Image search and Google Image Search, I got multiple versions with many designs. So, I basically tried to create a version that followed close to some of the details in their designs. A majority of them had the "the following suspect" paragraph after the photos and description details.

I believe that the artist's rendition normally appears after the actual photograph of the criminal.

Okay, that's my bad too. All I know is that normally, they have a sketch and a picture next to each other, and I honestly didn't know the order.

I believe the "artist's rendition" would look much more like a sketch and a lot less like a photograph.

Another one that's that's my bad. I tried to take the photo and manipulate it to try to get it in the appearance of a sketch, but from the times I tried it, it looked more and more like a photo with the filter effect applied than a sketch. So, I just went with the one that was least like it to me (and using a real sketch didn't seem likely). But I'll try it again, see if I can correct this.

I believe the words "I'll be bock" spoken to an officer soon to be crushed by a vehicle would not be enough for the Feds to attempt dialect identification. Oh yeah, also "I'm here to see Sarah Connor."

You forget one detail: There was one character that the Terminator spoke too that wasn't killed. In the scene after Sarah and Kyle check into the Tiki Hotel, the Terminator was sitting in his hotel room, flipping through Sarah's address book. The guy that talks through the door at the Terminator, I think he may have been the manager of the hotel, heard the Terminator tell him to go screw himself (not only that, the Terminator had to have checked into the room in the first place, so, he may have talked to the same guy when signing in and then going out to hunt down Sarah). After a massive cop killing like that, it's likely the news talked about it and the police would have released the suspect's picture. That guy could have called the police, they could have interviewed him. And most people have seen movies with characters who speak with a German accent, and since the guy doesn't look well educated, he probably would have related to a movie he's seen with a character speaking in a German accent. And let's not forget the person who answered the phone for the Tiki Hotel after getting the phone number from Sarah (The Terminator used its normal voice for "Give me the address there.") But if it seems least likely that's how they would get that info, I can change it.

I believe that the actual file footage photograph would be even blurrier and from further away, otherwise an artist's interpretation would not be needed.

You know, I think fixing that wouldn't be a problem. I think I may try that to see how it looks.

I believe the crime would be identified as multiple homicide, not as murder.

Okay, I'll get that fixed. I was thinking of the term "mass murderer" when I typed it. I see that as an error.

I believe this was a seriously cool idea and I cannot believe it has not been attempted before.

Thanks. I don't know if it has been attempted before (by anyone here or another forum, Deviantart, etc), especially for "The Terminator" films/TV series/comic books/etc, but I can say that I felt it would be something to try out just once, even if it has been done before somewhere.

I believe that is my opinion, and everybody else's mileage may vary.

Thank you very much for your opinions. Of course, I value everyones opinion. I just want to make sure that people understand where I come from a bit, especially with my odd thought process, before I proceed with making changes. But I'll see what I can do. :D

Xxblackbird - Well, I could, but the problem with screencapping the pic from the scene you mentioned is this: due to the glossy paper they used and the positioning of the pictures in the scene, the light source in the scene is reflected and it'd be difficult to reposition the picture to get a straight-on screen cap of the last picture (basically, if I use the screencap, it'd be noticeable that it's a screencap from that scene). To answer your question about paper prop printing, I haven't gotten around to doing it because of the previous printer I had. I did work on a short film that required many paper prop replicas of 4 full sized posters, several medium sized posters of anti-war protests and flyers. I used the printers at the Full Sail Library, which is an office/professional grade printer. But since My dad has handed off his HP Photosmart 1115, I think any paper props I do may come off looking very well. :)
