PIH Production Vader Helmet Up for Auction / Vader Helmet Discussion

It was finished recently, so it seems like quite a coincidence that the grill aligns the way it does. If the source was watertight then obviously I wouldn't be so suspicious, but when someone claims it is a production original helmet that came via SDS then one really has to wonder. Refinishing could mean just a repaint and not replacement of grills and lenses. The lenses are seated further back than they should be, incidentally.

And by the way, and I ask myself why I should even bother to mention it, but that mask photo was not taken at Don Post Studios.

Its like watching a dog chase its own tail.

Not only that, they use the photograph of the original ANH mask claiming it was taken at ILM. Wrong. It was taken at Don Post Studios. And I am confident that they do not even have permission to use that photograph.

He might be trying to get as far into the rabbit hole as possible.:confused

Thomas, if you are referring to the photo of the original ANH on the table, according to Bill Malone he took that shot. Malone's photos were used to promote the DPS versions of said masks back then. Here is the same table you see in the PIH shot. After conferring with a friend of mine, I stand corrected, the shot was taken at ILM.

Here's one of the ads the photos were used for:

I know. That's why I said it wasn't taken at DPS.

WHOAH!
I've got zero interest in the PIH helmet but just had to say that this photo is perhaps one of the most amazing I've seen of the ANH mask. How the hell did I miss this? Did Bill Malone post it somewhere???
Awesome!

Chris

This just has to be repeated:

So if I match the paintjob in that DPS Malone photo it implies that the mask is screen used?

It was posted in the PIH auction site.

Would be cool if the other pictures in the series got into the public domain like this as well.

I found out that the photo wasn't taken at DPS, ok? So if I find out something new I present that information.
Then why not post it that way, instead of writing as if no one's listening to you. Clearly, people are... but it's difficult to know what is right, when you say one thing earlier and another thing later and don't indicate that you got new information, explaining why we should disregard what was said in the old post.

Mike wasn't [EDITED FOR CONTENT]. He was just pointing out your contradicting statements.

You presented no new information. It's ok to be wrong. Really.

Oh well of course, because this reads exaclty like you had discovered this new information and were correcting yourself...

The fact is that [...] if you say stupid things then people are going to call you out on them.

I'm here to relay what I know or find out for the interest of the topic at hand, not to make efforts to pick apart what other people say and to try to show contradictions. There is a process known as "learning" which Mike doesn't seem familiar with. As time goes on I learn new things, basically because I continue to study things and ask questions.

So to construe it as me simply contradicting myself is nothing more than an attempt to bait me. Why? Because Mike is mad he got turfed from some forum for posting some detail from that same image, and then thought that I had posted a similar image in my ANH mask in ESB movie thread. [...]

Anyway, since someone asked, there's no left side view, and that pic is very low resolution. I actually know what kind of camera was used to take it. But I guess since I am an idiot, I need not elaborate further. :rolleyes

Anyway, if you take a close look you'll notice the tabs appear to be different than on the UK masks. [...]

Huh? Are you saying that the amazing "dome-less" pic is low resolution Thomas? I think I can say with my hand on my heart that it's perhaps one of the most revealing pics of the ANH mask I have ever seen and I'd take that pic over a thousand fuzzy enlargements any day. So cool to see new pics like that surface after so many years!

Chris

Well yes it is a nice photo (saw it years ago), but I'm just saying as a point of reference that it is low resolution, and it is highly compressed to boot, knowing what kind of camera was used to take it...

Well, you like to point out when people are wrong too and I've seen you get pretty rude yourself when doing it. You have to be abe to take it, if you're going to dish it out, but this is all off topic.

Funny you should mention the tabs thing. I said the exact same thing a while back privately.

As a helmet like that left over from Don Post studios I'd say it is still worth quite a bit, but not $30k, not by a long shot. But certainly a few thousand, but personally I wouldn't go over $10k for that, especially since it wasn't even used in promotion.

I'm sure you did. Maybe you should share more of your ideas with us more often.

When you say something privately and then you end up seeing it publicly it kinda makes you say hmmmmm. I'm sure this is just coincidence in this case.
