Obi Wan ANH hilt fate discussion

As far as I know, the grenade and booster are from Bapty since they're military ordinance, yes? The balance pipe came from salvaged Rolls Royce jet engines, and the pommel was a sink knob. I imagine those to be the only elements on loan.

Correctomondo!

There’s even that photo with the grenade with the bapsty tag on it

Not so fast..

This one picture does not prove or even suggest a Bapty connection to the grenade. We don’t know what the tag says or means. Conjecture and suppositions are all that the community has come up with to date.

This grenade doesn’t appear to be symmetrically cut either. And its condition, although the photo is black and white, also doesn’t appear to match reference photos for the screen used prop. Is there more than one grenade photos like this?

scarf man do we know the origin of this photo? I do think BAP lends some credibility but this grenade doesn’t seem to be a match for Kenobi’s grenade.

I agree we are just making guesses based on available info, but it is quite fun to do so lol!

The photo is from the making of book by Rinzler I believe, which I do not have.
Yes the pictured grenade is not a match, to chronicles at least. I find the Bapty connection plausible maybe even compelling, but not proven.
Same actually. Totally same.
Unless I'm mistaken, that's not even a Balance Pipe setup. It looks like the bp but the flanges are shorter lol
Not sure if you mean the other piece in the photo, but yeah def not balance pipes. But I don’t think it impacts the original discussion on Bapty non-Bapty. It’s a cool piece though and def could be a handle for a saber or taken apart could be an emitter.

I think a lot of these question could be answered if we knew what was going on INSIDE the hero saber. The bolt/rod assembly makes sense, but we have no clue how the prop was held together. That would help us understand the pin and screws maybe... though as PoopaPapa said, some of the logic with the OT props is confounding.
This is what makes sense to me.

I did this too, I felt like such a monster for hacking into my flash hider, but it does make for a very sturdy lightsaber. This would assume that they had the full flash hider and not just the booster nut.

Plenty sturdy, and logically explains the clamp screws which keep the end of the grenade seated on the inner clamp tabs and friction fit onto the cut down flash hider. It also explains the wires keeping the booster from unscrewing, still plenty of threading btw.

Not to mention the slight bend seen in the emitter facing Chronicles pic is basically impossible to replicate with a single threaded rod construction.

This makes the most sense to me 'construction-wise' with what they had available or using parts they may have had; dunno who was the first to do this though but I'm glad I managed to convince DaveP to offer this instead of just a simple metal spacer for his run (I'm definitely taking credit for it;)).

While I find this the most agreeable cosmetically and structurally, I don't know if I fully can convince myself this is how it may have been originally. I find it more likely that there wasn't a spacer or anything at all and that the clamp was part of the structural element to the OWK Hero, hence the necessity of the screws and cotterpin as means to secure the clamp and the rest of the parts together somewhat more sturdily and just how wonky the whole prop is. I only have a RussRep grenade and can't attest to the Roman's replica or the real part, and I know his is a little undersized, but in the Chronicles photo, there's loose shmutz under the clamp under the grenade section and I can't help but think that's gaffer tape around the bottom of the grenade for the clamp to help better grip the grenade and create a uniform hold with the clamp and booster nut. It's something I had to do with my replica OWK hilt from different maker parts.
