Very good points. The last time I used this guy for design work, we were able to completely bipass prototyping. The CAD is that good.

So first part will be getting one end cap machined. I actually prefer lathe work over 3D printing for parts like this because there will be no print lines to clean up first. I will be able to make a 2 part mold direct off the master part.

OK. I will chasing down the guy that made my lens cases and getting him to machine a single end cap that I can then mold and cast in hard (tinted black) plastic. Machining costs will be about $400 because of the all the excess material he has to remove to make the ring. I am hoping he can just mill out the centre first, then turn the rest. This then gives me a big round part to make a new master for a Mr Fusion base.

Fair play to you Cavx. I'm a new member having just discovered the site a few days ago.
Ive been following your progress on this particular prop and your Nike Air Mag journey. I've also watched all your youtube videos. You are a credit to the community.
I am an industrial designer by trade. You already seem to have a relationship with a designer in Oz, but if you or any other member needs any advice on manufacturability, or help modelling something for mold making/small batch runs let me know. I'd be happy to help out within reason.
I believe it's good to give something back to a community if the community has benefitted you and you are in a position to help.
The members here seem to pool all their ideas/knowledge/resources, which is what community is all about.
Keep up the good work Cavx and co.

Kind regards

Crimewave

PS: I think I should wait for my Air Mags to arrive from China before I contemplate acquiring the movie prop box to store them in! But it's so desirable. Cant wait to see how they turn out :)

If there is still room on the list, I'd definitely be interested.:)

With the money I am going to have to outlay for tooling, the more the merrier.

Now it gets expensive...

If anyone (apart from MattgomeryBurns - Deposit paid) would like to chip in some cash (yes via PayPal and it will be listed as a deposit), I'd be grateful.

You're making the side circles in aluminium?

No, this is a master part for precise molding and casting. The body and one lid will also be made from aluminium. The body and lid will be form rolled to be perfectly aligned to the inner track machined into this end cap.

From there, I will make 2 part molds of each part and cast in a hard black plastic. The clear end caps will be added later. I have also found the sheets of transmissive material. They can be powered by the same 3V inverters used to power EL.

I want this bag to not only be screen accurate, but practical, so if you decide you want to actually use this, you can. I want the lids to open and close with binding up. If happen to get caught in the rain, it is plastic, it won't matter. If you drop this bag, (based on the drop tests I have done with this plastic) the bag should be fine.

I also have to build a post cure box and heater.

So there is fair amount of work ahead.
