My Mk. 42 build, new STL files for upper arm section

Re: My go at creating the Mk. 42 forearm armor 3D-print files added

Progress has been slow. Turns out the epoxy I used to glue the pieces together was a bad batch.
Because of this I had to cut all the seams open and refill them with new gunk. Followed by all the other fill/sand stuff -_-

Anyways, between the sanding sessions I started to work a bit on the bicep armor. Not much yet, but it's getting there

Nice work bro, Cant wait to see this printed

Re: My go at creating the Mk. 42 forearm armor 3D-print files added

Great work, I keep following your progress. Smoothly does it and steady work.

Re: My go at creating the Mk. 42 forearm armor 3D-print files added

I loved seeing someone make the glove for the premiere earlier this year! You were on top of it haha. That is very generous to hand out the 3D print files, I was looking to complete the collection with the palm peice. Is that also an STL or did you pep that?

:D

I just wish I was as skilled as you at polygon modeling. Working with surfaces is pretty time consuming.
Some more progress, the back vent is somewhat finished.

Ohhhhh...youu .. stop it :p
Anyway haha you really impressed me man !
The mark 42 is a really hard armor to model !!
But yoou really nailed it !
If you need help or you have any question just throw me a pm :)
Ill be watching your progress !!!

I pepped the palm piece, as it was before I really got into 3D-printing. They are however on my to-do list.
I follow your blog and must say I really love your Mark 42 project. That boot looks absolutely awesome. Plus the electronics and mechanics on top of that :thumbsup

Thank you for the offer! :) I'll contact you for sure if I switch to polys.
What program do you use BTW?

Yeah, I spent a whole afternoon just trying to wrap my head around all the different shapes and details.
It's an intricate suit for sure.
One up side of surface modeling is once you get the shape right, there's no extra work on making high-res meshes for printing. But still...

yea but i would never see myself going into surface modelling haha !
i prefer poly because it is (in my opinion) way easier to make the details and i have a better control of the mesh !

well it depends if i need to model some simple pieces i use blender and make them quickly !
but if its for example a piece with grooves and lots of detail i model it through 3ds max !
but if i need to prep any of my model for 3d printing i use 3ds max (and netfabb to repair and blablabla)

Okay. I have access to both Maya and 3ds at my school. Been playing a little in Maya, but nothing serious really.
Surfaces is pretty fun once you get into the right methodology, but I'm still a novice :)
I'm starting a course in Autodesk Alias soon, and hopefully that will speed up my workflow a bit.

I've decided to split up the model in different layers, as reaching all the inner edges of the forearm was tedious work. Still very rough, but these are the parts I'm going to finish separately before assembly.

Re: My Mk. 42 build (at page 2)

Can't wait for more pics! XD

More pics it is! :D
Just because I don't have anything fun to show.

I dare to say this piece is 87% done for printing right now.

And just for fun; all the reference lines I've used for this model. Probably messier than it needs to. Not to get started on the surfaces...:rolleyes

I'm currently making a silicone mold mold of the forearm and should be ready for casting this weekend. Just waiting for the mother mold resin to arrive.

Re: My Mk. 42 build (at page 2)

Albert,

you sir are AWESOME at modeling. let me know if you need any help with fastening or smoothing parts. like i said We have SolidWorks here at work.

I am subscribing to this thread because i want to stay up with your progress!

check your PM's i sent you one here also!

thanks again
Andy

Re: My Mk. 42 build (at page 2)

I believe you just set the bar a little higher! Amazing job so far!

Re: My Mk. 42 build (at page 2)

Some fantastic surface modeling going on here, wish I had a bit more time to play about with the styling tool on pro engineer, keep up the good work!

Thanks guys! :D

I'm happy.
I tried my very first silicone mold this weekend and I'm very pleased with the result :D

This was the second cast and it turned out almost perfect, apart from a couple of bubbles in the pointy areas. No apparent warping either. The original hatch fit the recast perfectly.

Unfortunately, the master piece didn't fare that well during the demold process, but I got what I needed from it.

That said, is there any interest in a forearm set containing this piece and the removable hatch?
If so I might throw up a thread in the junkyard section. It would be nice to balance out the cost of the mold materials :)
