My joker progress thread. COMPLETE (PHOTODUMP)

Re: NECROBump!! Big update for me :my joker progress thread.

looks great

i probably would have gone for a real dirty blond though

would have made the green stand out more

and ive seen people bleach there hair, color it green, then let it grow out for a while and it gets that really gross green look his had

but the curl and the style you have it really perfect

plus i think a blonder wig would have come with a more pink lace making it easyer to blend to your skin

Re: NECROBump!! Big update for me :my joker progress thread.

I m actually going by what I've seen in the movie... his hair appears really dark, and the green is quite subtle in the shadows. The only time it's really noticeable is in bright- or daylight situations.

In which case, I'm really liking the subtle way the green looks. With flash, there are blonde highlights in the wig that show up and the brown fibers show more as well.

anyway, I got my socks today!
That means that officially all I have left to do is:
Make my overcoat
find or make gloves
decide on scars

The blazer I found at Burlington coat factory, it's got a fun lining that, although not S/A, is very joker-like with skulls and guns and knives...etc

anyway, just messing around.

Re: NECROBump!! Big update for me :my joker progress thread.

Just out of curiosity, are these the S-A gloves?

Because If I'm paying $95 + shipping I might as well go with magnoli.

Actually, on second thought, I might as well grab some deer-hide and make them myself! The glove pattern looks pretty easy
I went ahead and decided to go with the Trauma FX scars. We'll see how they do, and I'll review them when they get here.

Re: My joker progress thread. update pg. 2

Mine was a cross between "The Dark Knight" & the comic book/animated...

The gloves can be a tough decision to make for accuracy. I went with Magnoli after searching for about 3 months on a right pair. I even made 2 pair prior to ordering them, but I wanted a screen accurate look as well.

The first pair I ordered from Magnoli were great! They were just what I was looking for, but 1. they were too loose. 2. the wrist strap was too wide. From here I decided to improvise...

I ruined the right one when I tried shrinking it with boiling water. 10 seconds, no. More like 1 second dips until you get the desired tightness, so don't leave them submerged. :p I managed to stretch it back out, but it was still way tight, so I ordered a custom pair... This pair took 8 months to arrive! This was rather a pain in the @$$ for me. Once they arrived though I noticed that they were different. The color was more dull/dark purple, the wrist straps were still too wide as I requested to be thinner, and there was a seam on the outside of the index finger which was not there before and shouldn't have been.

Just a heads up for you on how my search went starting two years ago. But if you go Magnoli, his are the best I could find.

Re: My joker progress thread. update pg. 2

well i have no doubt that it looks better in person
they often too
and i like it anyway

as for the gloves, totally go Magnoli
those are nice, perfect actually
just if you plan on paying that much for the gloves id say go magnoli
saves you cash on the flip side

Here's a coat preview:

Also, I just found some better vest fabric so I'm probably going to be re-making the vest (already). hahaha

Re: My joker progress thread. update pg. 2

RE-made the vest, finished as of 4:am (minus buttons and holes)
Not to bad considering I didn't start until about 10 pm. :p

Here's the new vest compared to the old front panels:

More accurate, true, bright green color.
More accurate 100% poly material with a fashion fabric fusible interfacing.
Front and back now consist of two, more accurate panels.
Pockets featuring piping done "the right way".
Pockets widened by 1.5 cm for accuracy
Pockets are now functional.
lower vest profile altered to have more accurate contour
outer seams are now pressed and not topstitched

The coat is nearing completion I just have to tweak a few things that were 'off' with the pattern

Re: My joker progress thread. update pg. 2

id like to know what pattern you used or modified to make your vest
ive been wanting to remake mine for a while
mine was made in a day and did the trick, but its time to upgrade

still no luck on the back fabric, ill find it though

Re: My joker progress thread. update pg. 2

I used a VOGUE pattern, for the (first) vest, and modified it mildly.

The second vest I scrapped the Vogue pattern and made my own off of another vest that I own mixed with measurements from the first vest.
But I'll grab that pattern # for you and edit When I get home.

those things are tricky

and thanks for the pattern help
ill have to go pick that one up ^^

Re: My joker progress thread. another new vest pg3

The quest for accuracy continues! (As I've suddenly become terribly unhappy with my first coat :(

Re: My joker progress thread. another new vest pg3

Your craftsmanship is impeccable.
I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the coat. I thought the first one looked great :)

Re: My joker progress thread. another new vest pg3

This is looking absolutely fantastic! The new vest is much better. Great work.

Prototype overcoat on the left. The material looks pretty nice in person but photographed SOOO tacky! New, custom wool on the right died by myself. It has a nearly screen-accurate color but I think it could maybe use one more dye-bath of either blue or purple.

BTW, i'm having such a terrible time photographing this costume to get the right colors... it makes it so difficult to dye fabric when lighting and the camera you use has such a HUGE effect on how the costume looks! It's hard to critique yourself and be confident in BEING critiqued when the situation is so wonky.

At any rate, I plan to have studio quality shots of this when it's done anyway

Re: My joker progress thread. another new vest pg3

Here is the progress I've made on my new over-coat.
Just need to make the sleeves and lining.
I can't believe I'm almost done with this already.

...
Well, 'mostly' done.
BTW my screen-accurate buttons came today! I haven't had time to put them on yet...
