Before it gets archived (and I strongly believe it will be, in perhaps the next 24-36 hours), you may want to consider sending all pics that you CANNOT permanently host to our HERO, Oohyeah KL!

Only too happy to host. Send 'em to me - KL@oohyeahzone.com

Been hanging the last few days, noticed a little something:

Brevin-Vader-ROTJ-3b.jpg

In this image you can see a hole drilled under the shroud ring piece just inline with the test light switch.

Also most photo's I've seen it looks like the graflex was gutted and the insulator was replaced with plug of resin. Is this right?

Alright David,
What's that port plug piece you added in?

Good eye Cyland!I never caught that hole before!
Great, another thing to add to my project!

I still think the rear pin part of the original bulb socket was used, but the front portion was replaced with resin/epoxy/what have you and the back part left off completely. The original socket has a beveled socket for the test lamp, so it could accomodate the plug piece and the visible pin.

Are you sure thats a hole drilled under the shroud or one of the two rectandular ports with the screw in between???

FMC: Yes, this pic is what was once speculated to be the "port plug" piece:

Graflex-silver-button.jpg

I can fully guarantee you that it is NOT the same piece. I've inserted it into a Graflex headshell, to be more specific.

Cyland: I was also unsure of what you meant, since you said it lined up with the test light switch (in this case, the "port plug").
If you are referring to what FMC just circled, I noticed that also a few days back, but didn't think to post about it. Nice catch!
icon_smile.gif

I have no idea what it is.

With the bottom endcap it looks like we are just seeing the edges as different things.
DS- Where you put the yellow lines I see the edge of the disc, around the rest of it I see double edges (Graflex lip and disc).
It is depressed in the center, but we disagree on why.

Here's a question: How do you see it as putty when it's reflective? The Kobold bracket clearly reflects in several pics. I also don't see any ripples like putty, but do see several scratches that look like metal.
What type of putty are you thinking?

Something else I just noticed about the port plug piece in the shot at the top of the page( the shot of David's) if you look at the flat part of the stem, it had a different color than the rest of the stem. The tire valves I found had the same color under the chrome when I ground the threading off. ( Chrome plating I presume).

I know, wrong piece, but I'm still looking!

If it is exposed material under plating, then can we presume the part was ground flat and not originally that way?

I just don't see that it's reflective to the point of being metal, Chris.

Lots of things that are white or grey (-ish), whether they are plastic, paint, or whatever, reflect light...especially from a very bright light, such as a camera flash.

This is where we differ in views...I see absolutely no reflective surface at all..No reflection af any nearby objects, no metallic reflections of light...All I see is a flat white or gray surface..like a pasty white

This I do see..Yes the kobold D-ring attachement I definitely see chrome like reflection, but as for the circular base all I see is a flat white (maybe off white or gray)color with no metallic reflection..

I wouldnt necessarily say they are ripples, but certain un-evenness in areas...Like it was uneven and then hastily sanded smooth..

Well Im just calling it putty because of the look of it...

But if I had to make a choice I would have to say it's wither metal epoxy (which is light gray) or all purpose epoxy (which is a creamy white color..

OH, just did some scalig on this saber...Its 5mm longer than a normal Graflex...(Not much of a differnec but still a difference)

Yeah Chris...the part that I use from Lowe's and Home Depot (originally identified by SinkTube Jedi, I believe) is the same type of deal:
A61423_3.JPG

What I do is soak it in Tarn-X for about 15 minutes. That removes the brass finish.
I then drill out the center a bit wider.
icon_smile.gif

The circumference is a tad smaller than the actual piece, but it is the best thing out there to use as of now!

Yep that be the hole. Boy this thing is more ugly than I remember. I think with my replica I'm just going to go for an Idealized replica not the kicked around the block/ universe special.

Chris,
this is the shot that sold me on the putty theory.
DVROTJendcap1.jpg

I believe it's a Brevin shot modofied by Killdozer.

The areas directly above and to the left and below and to the right seem to show where the putty was applied in a thin layer and there are strips of the base material visible.

With it being a white or light colored putty, the Kobold assembly reflects but not with any definition, just a fuzzy reflection.

Yeah,
I've been saying the same thing! And it keeps getting uglier!

Exactly, you can get the same kind of loght reflection off of a piece of paper which is also a flat texture.

BTW notice the rivets are filed down...I had to do this on my ESB Luke because a small portion of the nail was sticking through..After I filed it I drilled the nail in the hole a bit to hide it...But the end result from the filing was the flat surface on the riivet, the same as in the pics above..

That putty looks like it could have been painted.
</TD></TR><TR><TD><HR></TD></TR></TABLE><SPAN CLASS=$row_color>

With how thin the layer is, I could definitely buy that.

I was wondering which hole you were talking about and yeah it does keep getting uglier. It looked good from a sideview, but whew, that thing will strip paint.

About the endcap, it does look like dried up putty, but could also be a waterbased paint.
