Re: 3 Ft Fiberglass Firefly

Again I was just curious as I love the Serenity ship. Personally I need to see photographs of a build before I'm "interested".

I understand there were problems with your large enterprise "kit". I've seen several pictures which were alarming. I'm concerned about a model which is far more detailed being able to be built and completed without major issues.

Re: 3 Ft Fiberglass Firefly

I understand, I do reccomend these kits for experienced model builders.
But this hull is much simpler to construct, just two big halves.
Just rubberband it together, securely tape the joint and drool epoxy inside on the seams.
Peel the tape, and in 5 minutes you have a ship.
So building it will be mostly the fun stuff, details, paint, electrical, and working systems.
Stay tuned, more to come.

Re: 3 Ft Fiberglass Firefly

So far, things are fine (with one minor exception), but based on some history (if you don't know, you don't want to, believe me), I'm compelled to make a brief nanny post.

It is absolutely appropriate to ask for progress pics and assurances of quality and things of that sort. RShanko's Enterprise wasn't everyone's cup of tea, so it's quite reasonable for a potential customer to be a little cautious with his next project. But there will be no pile-on, loaded and insincere queries, etc. There has already been a little bit of baiting (indetectible unless you know the history). You know who you are. No more of that, please.

End of finger wag.

Re: 3 Ft Fiberglass Firefly

Sounds like an awesome project
Lookin forward to pictures

Re: 3 Ft Fiberglass Firefly

I thought I detected a tone of sour grapes in that post, so I responded nicely, and patiently.
Allow me to point out, that for the sake of pure accuracy, no one has produced a TOS model starship that looks as real as my 66" TOS Enterprise.
That is my opinion, and since the Smithsonian has linked to my video, others think it looks great too.
If you want to see one of my 66" starships in action, click on the link at the bottom of my posts.
I made this video in about 10 minutes of starship #1, and I've never seen anybody make a more covincing TOS starship video.
If you have, PLEASE DO POST A LINK TO IT... so we may see for ourselves.
Otherwise, until that time, I have built (at this time), the best.
I'm sure someone will do better one day, but don't criticize a man who is at the top unless you can show better.
I'm going to show the world something better yet, I have 2 starships running.
Now that I have #7 done, I'm shooting a new video with 2 starships running together.
But enough, about the 6 ft Enterprise, I'm glad to provide you with my point of view in this case however, since some still are sour that I had the indecency to make such a model..:lol
Watch the video and see for yourself.

Now..
This thread is about the Firefly. I'm certainly qualified to build these.
Let's keep it on topic, and fun.
:thumbsup

Until I get pictures of my Firefly masters,
Here is one of the reference pictures I am using to help create the 3 ft model.

Now, Ron, don't you go poking at the hornet's nest, either!

Back to Serenity...

Re: 3 Ft Fiberglass Firefly

Holy balls, are you flippin' serious? You really want to see something that exceeds your Enterprise in fit and finish? Easy:

http://www.squaremodels.com/66enterprise.htm

Your Enterprise was a noble project, but let's not get carried away here. I think you need a little perspective - it was by no means an ultimate representation of the Enterprise filming miniature. It was a large scale model, made with apparent passion and loving care to the best of your abilities, but it has some serious drawbacks.

Why don't you take pics of your ship up close? Why don't you show us your Enterprise, lets say, lit by the sun, outside or something? I have always steered far and clear of your threads because of the storm that follows your posts, but I thought it was important to speak up, since you asked.

I've only ever seen less-than-ideal pics/video of the thing strung up in a room. Is it structurally secure? Can it be removed from the ceiling and be shown elsewhere? I'm sorry, but I am not impressed.

I think Sean's Enterprise is more deserving of being called the "best" out there right now. It lights up, the craftsmanship is impeccable, it can travel well, and though it doesn't really matter for the sake of this debate, it has had the blessing of an original cast member!

And the Smithsonian "proudly" displayed fake props before, so it's not like they are infallible either.

Perspective my good man, perspective. Get some.. and for the love of god, get some humility while you're at it.

Good luck with the Serenity. I think I can honestly say you will most definitely need it.

Re: 3 Ft Fiberglass Firefly

Still looking forward to this model. :thumbsup
Still interested in seeing how the kit turns out.:thumbsup

I am happy someone seems to be making a large version of this (as no one else seems to be and you would think there would be a bit of a market for it), the small x-mas tree one on my desk just really is not enough:rolleyes

Looking forward to some pictures.:thumbsup

AND for those people who would... please don't bash me for being interested in a model that is in progress, and interested in seeing more. I am not judging your old issues, nor an I judging the model maker, I just want a chance to judge the model when it is done and decide if I spend my money on it - same thing I do with EVERY project I am interested in.

Re: 3 Ft Fiberglass Firefly

I have heard a few people talk about making a larger model of this, and I always express my interest, but so for I have not seen one finished (or even close):rolleyes

Re: 3 Ft Fiberglass Firefly

Thomas did alot of work on his Firefly, and then got in bed with the liscenced company, who told him to put it on hold as he said on his forum.
Something like that.
I'm sure he's eager to finish the kit. He has the tooling done from what I understand for a 26" resin model.

Sean's model is great, but I haven't seen it in a TOS video depicting the original ship yet.
I showed mine....
Proof is in the pudding.

I promise to try to keep on topic after this Jay.
Back to the Firefly, the master is taking shape.
I probably should have waited until this model is done to announce it, but I wanted to get the juices flowing and offer hope for the near future the option that everyone can be having a nice Firefly model in their home.
Once I have more done, and it looks like the Firefly, I will show some of the work I did, and putting the finishing touches on it.
But, I should be able to give a few pix of it very soon.
It's looking pretty big now.

Re: 3 Ft Fiberglass Firefly

I'd love a large scale kit too.

Eventually, someone will step up to the plate. I'm patient :)

Re: 3 Ft Fiberglass Firefly

Good then wait and be quiet.

Why don't YOU start building, and stop flapping your gums/puffing your chest.

Your bravado and track record aren't exactly filling me with a lot of confidence in your project. Let's see your mock up!

Re: 3 Ft Fiberglass Firefly

Firefly Update;

Dear friends,
Thank you for being so supportive in the PMs, and emails.
I will unveil my Firefly model very soon, and I hope to have protype pictures up in this coming week, so relax, I made great progress in the last few days. It's looking really good. The detailing is going to make this model. I'm working hard to get it right.
The main body is shaped in foam, and I'm putting panels, plating and vents on the model.
In a week, lots more details will be done..
I already did the rear screens and engine flaps, and I'm molding in some of the small piping and plumbing on the back of the engine.
So to recap, the main hull is shaped directly from the Zoic files, and has all the correct shapes and contours, so finishing that, and getting the wings and side engines done is next on my schedule.
I'll be making molds of it once I've added all I can to it.
The Firefly should be a super fun ship to build from this kit.

So I'll try to give you guys some new pictures this week.:love
:thumbsup

Re: 3 Ft Fiberglass Firefly

3 Ft Fiberglass Firefly. There are 6 pages in this thread and not a single picture? I'm wondering now why I opened it. :confused

If it's a private project, why even start a thread?

Re: 3 Ft Fiberglass Firefly

You know I was thinking this was going to be a cool project.

But due to the comments here, I'm out.

I don't care for the arrogance demonstrated.
