Limited Run Leia and Chewie ANH brass handcuffs

Hello there, let's update a bit!
sorry, life is still hectic and I'm still too slow, it's crazy! but progress is still being made for sure.
I took a long time cleaning up the fit on each Leia cuff, I had to build a new jib and meticulously worked on all of them to get the fit as good as possible, it took way longer than I hoped.

I have now moved on to milling the bevels on the hinges, which is a good progress step I guess. There is still a lot of work to be done, but I'm looking forward to installing the hinges axis to have each cuff stuck together before doing the final steps.

Just like mentioned during the prototype, the bevels are milled just a little bit too far to get the same step visible on the original cuffs.

Hey there,
A bit of an update on the slow progress.

I have finished milling the mating flat spot on the sides of the Leia cuffs:

I tested several solutions/tools to get the cleanest countersunk screw heads to attache the cuffs together. Seems straightforward but the countersunk bit was too wide to get the screw to the proper depth and wasn't looking clean enough. Very happy with the final solution, 5.2mm drill bit, cleaned up screw head on the lathe to get a perfect mating of the hole and screw:

that gives a clean look I think :)

cheers

Beautiful Eethan! When do you expect these will be completed?
Thank you.
I can't make promises for timing anymore, my life has been too crazy since the end of last year, just trying to work as much as I can each day.
One thing I'll say is that I had to be realistic and take a decision for this run, and as you guys might have noticed, I'm only mentioning progress on the Leia's lately, the Chewies have not been milled since the turning was finished, I'm focusing on finishing all the Leias first to split the run in a more manageable size.
I'm making good progress on the Leia's, I hope they'll be ready in the next few weeks and I can already get half of the run into you guy's hands :) it's either that and half the people on the list gets their prop earlier, or I finish everything together and everybody waits more, so I thought it made sense to go that way :)

I'll be back full steam on the Chewies as soon as the Leia's are finished of course.
I'm also doing this because I have more people than spots available on the Chewies, and I'll take this chance to contact everyone on the Chewies list in order of arrival to ask if they would like a Leia instead and right away. And hopefully I'll see a bit clearer for the Chewie backup list after this.
Let me reassure all that this run is my priority although it is slow and that I'm working hard to finish it. No worries also for the 20 first people on the Chewie list, there is absolutely a pair of handcuffs for you, just trying to see if I can sell the additional Leia's and make as many people happy as possible.

Cheers all

Hey guys,

all holes are drilled and tapped, cuffs are now paired so the holes lined up perfectly for each pair.
time consuming step as each pair had to be test fitted, halves separated, drilled, tapped, put back together.

here is a quick mockup to show size difference between Chewie and Leia:

Yes, I have now tested and attached my wrists with the Leia size, couldn't resist ahah.

I hope everyone in Canada stays safe! It's awefull to see this again. And it's pretty crazy as the smoke has reached us here in the south of France for a couple days. The sky is completely white and there is no depth to it, you can even smell it! it's crazy to experience this from so far away.
Here is a crappy photo, especially since there is a moskito net on the window, but you can see the sky is grey/white and it's actually missing the main mountain in the background here:

this is a comparison photo from this winter, but it should actually normally look like this, and notice the extra mountain that is normally very visible and not that far!

stay safe everyone!

oh my lord!! What a view!!!!

Today will be a silly update :)
there was another long pass of clean up and adjusting in the past few days, metal is pretty much alive, so milling the flat spots changed the adjustment of the two halves on all the cuffs... I have now made the final fitting for all parts and they are ready for their hinges rods to be drilled and attached :)
first one is done, yes, you can fit some -relatively- manly wrists into the Leia size

I have bought a deburring/polishing tumbler that I hope to receive quickly and that I hope will help my work in the future. I will be doing some tests with this, I want to keep the patina, but if there was a way to smooth a bit all the edges that would be great. I will have to put a disclaimer for that run that any bedroom games with those props is not my responsibility and if any injuries occur, I won't be liable
I'm always keeping edges as clean as possible to get a clean precise look, but in this case, there are a lot of pointy edges, so I'll do my best to compromise between clean look and relatively blunt edges, but you guys will need to be carefull if playing with those for sure.
