Julien’s Upcoming Hero Phaser & Communicator Auction

Why would the glue on the P1 plexi apparently fail, but not the glue under the number strip

that makes sense to me, any glue sticks way better to porous paper than it does to inert acrylic. if the glue fails in that "sandwich" the paper is staying on the phaser and the plex comes off clean, leaving a layer of glue on top of the paper.

Also, it’s hard to tell from the current photos, but the right and center gems on the comm may not match the 16ss hyacinth and 16ss crystal AB which HeroComm was reasonably sure that the real prop had. At the very least, the right stone appears to have been replaced with one identical to the left.

Hard to tell, but all three on this prop look to be the same size.
The owner had stated they had a very careful restoration done using vintage parts at some point on the communicator.

Yet we know how that goes.

I have to say, that phaser looks like the real deal to me. I've seen copies, but if THIS one is a copy it's by someone heretofore unknown IMO, AND unequaled in skill. I may be wrong, but I'd pay 100,000 quatloos for it without hesitation.
I would love for it to be real, yet it's just one of those things where we have to use a lot of caution

When I first got the call, I rolled my eyes but the more I examined and compared them to the originals, the more I was convinced. If someone starts a new thread, please post a link here (so I can find it, lol).

BTW, I was the most vocal about the previous fake that went up for auction; this is a completely different animal. That one had a ton of things wrong, this one, I could find nothing wrong.
Are more photos of this being shared online somewhere? I'd love to see them.

Starting a new thread on the topic of the upcoming Julien’s Hero Phaser & Communicator Auction.

But why would it need a “restoration”?

As I noted upthread, the vintage rhinestones differ from modern equivalents. It seems too convenient to me that, if they don’t match the originals, all three theoretically needed to be “restored”.

I’m also still seeing a lot more midplate visible than in the vintage screencaps. The plate on the auction prop doesn’t appear to have been trimmed nearly as close to the shell.

We really do need more photos, though.

Looks to me like the communicator had fallen apart & was re-glued. The mid plate is all over the place, too much on the side, too little in the front. The phaser looks like it went in a box & almost never came out. It's in great shape.

I don't know why the owner felt the need to do what they did...

As I'm not familiar with the communicators enough it would seem that they tried to do a good faith restoration, rather than one intended to be accurate........

They needed people more familiar with the props to be the ones doing the restoration.

The communicator likely suffered the same abuse by children that one of the Cage lasers suffered :(

Regarding the rear fins: The suspect prop's front fin cavity seems to have the same curve as the screen grab.

But regarding the length of the fins themselves at the front: to me it looks like the 2nd fin down in the screen cap is shorter then the other three. The suspect prop's 2nd fin seems to be even with the other three. (I can't edit the photo to show what I'm trying to say)
I was about to post the same observation; seems to me that the second fin down is, indeed, shorter(y)

I want to see more provenance on these, and not ‘some dude from paramount had it for fifty years’. You mean to tell me that for all these years somebody sat on these in secret? No photos, never sold with public knowledge, etc. With the three foot enterprise, we understand that one, let’s see that happen with these.
I’d like them to be real, and if they are fake they are excellent fakes, but they also match, well, the phaser anyway, the best documented phaser there is other than Jeins. And the markings alllllllmost match. I see an issue with the P1 release rod, and for some reason the butt end of the P1 looks slightly different in shape, but it could be the photo. I’d also like to see better photos of the emitter knob to see if it’s one of the modern ones.
I would like them to be real. The supposed new hero phaser was so obviously phony it wasn’t funny and I cannot believe people bought into it, but these have a chance.
I’m not convinced yet, and I lean towards excellent fakes until proven otherwise.

I have an absolutely genius idea. If every member of the RPF gives me $1,000 I will buy these pieces—and then we will know for certain.

Let me know if you would like my PayPal ID to send me a donation. The satisfaction of your curiosity is certainly worth a non-refundable donation of $1,000, right??

Perhaps a GoFundMe
