Iron Man - Mark 30 "Blue Steel" Build (100% Complete!)

Re: Iron Man - Mark 30 "Blue Steel" Build (Updated!)

Theres been a slight change of plan concerning whose files im using.

I noticed (and you can probably see in the picture in the previous post) that the arms, especially the biceps seemed a tiny bit small in comparison to MF's chest
SOOOO....... I spent yesterday completely re-unfolding PepCowboy's files, and now I shall be using Pep's files for the build - I shall use MF's files that I already built as research and practice for resin/FG and paint etc as ive never done any of that with cardboard

Anywho... I present Blue Steel Shin/Boot Mark 2

IMAG0360.jpgIMAG0361.jpgIMAG0362.jpg
Much more detailed.... love it :D
I am researching Hinge mechanisms at the moment for all the suit - and also thinking of some undersuit parts to make

(If anyone has pictures of hinge systems they've used for Ankles/Elbows and Shoulders - Please post them as it would really help)

Thanks Mate
------------------------------------ Update 21.4.14 ---------------------------------------

IMAG0367.jpgIMAG0368.jpgIMAG0366.jpg

Amazing Thigh File by PepCowboy, very clean and detailed!

IMAG0365.jpg

One leg complete. Technically I only have 1 Thigh left to build and I have the entire suit done. However I am redoing the torso so ill settle for having the limbs done

Tomorrow, I hope to get the 2nd thigh completed, which means all im missing is the Body but my living room is starting to get a bit cramped for space
IMAG0369.jpg

Im now going over some hinge systems and some "inner armor" technicalities, I think I may have figured out an inner elbow and knee section (but ill get back to everyone about that)
I Can't wait to start hardening this pieces :D

Re: Iron Man - Mark 30 "Blue Steel" Build (Leg Done!!)

All this is looking great! Is there a reason you switched over to Cowboy's files though? Though his are very detailed, they are based off of the game model which is not accurate to the movie. (Not trying to diss Cowboy's work, he is a great modeler) The game model was based off the concept art for the Centurion, and the design changed when they actually went into production for the movie... But none the less, this is great work! Looking for more updates :thumbsup

Re: Iron Man - Mark 30 "Blue Steel" Build (Leg Done!!)

MiddleFinger - I only switched due to mistake I made when trying to scale his arms to your torso - Just coz im a tiny bit OCD (im not but I like everything to match upright) the smaller arms looked out of place against the larger torso.

Tbh im still in 2 minds about which torso file to use, because your right his chest is shaped different than yours and I think I prefer the (I want to say) roundness of yours - its just hard getthing things to match up.

HOWEVER - if you are planning on finishing your model of the centurion - ill build that suit entirely aswell (that way ill get both the centurion and blue steel :D)
Since I have almost half of your suit done already would seem a shame to waste it.
So ive decided while typing this reply I shall continue with your suit aswell mate - and aint it the SC theme.... any idea when yours will be completely modelled??

No it's been on hold for awhile now. I still have issues with scaling the armor correctly and after the 3rd time of having to do the same piece I decided to take a break. Plus I'm in the process of working on an ASM2 costume but I may pick it back up here soon

Ahh man, sucks to hear :( But I look forward to when you pick it back up :D and good luck with asm2

------------------------ Small Update (ish) -------------------------

IMAG0370.jpgIMAG0371.jpg I TECHNICALLY Have a Full Suit!! - However since im re-making the torso I shall dub this: Blue Steel (Mark 1)

Re: Iron Man - Mark 30 "Blue Steel" Build (Mark 1 Suit Done!!)

---------------------------- Update 23.4.14 - Blue Steel v2.0 -----------------------------

Well ive spent the last 3 days working on the new torso and I am pleased to announce - ITS DONE!

Day 1:
I though what would be the best way to do the new torso, so I started from the bottom up. In the first day I was able to Print, Cut and assemble the Codpiece and the Abs
IMAG0397.jpgIMAG0398.jpg
Im not exactly sure how I shall be assembling the abs, would it be easier to keep it as 4 parts or mash it into one?

Day 2:
I started by making the Upper Chest portion of the body. It got me thinking about what I want to add into this staute. I then thought why stop there...
So I soldiered on and completed the back... and I was bloody happy with it
IMAG0377.jpg

I Genuinely feel like Tony Stark at the beginning of Ironman 3:
IMAG0375.jpg - CLUTTER!

Day 3:
I found this last part to be the hardest - there were certain complications I wanted to overcome with the lower chest - but I think ive done a pretty good job with it
IMAG0387.jpgIMAG0388.jpg
These parts took the most effort as I needed to build a lot of "fiddly" walls - but again I am loving the resuts:
Speaking of Results......

Tomorrow i should finish the Neck and also!!!! i need to build PepCowboys Head :l as this suit is exactly my size the curent helmet is too small so ill need to remake another one
I also need to try and get some PVC Pipe as a stand for it - unless theres another way?

Re: Iron Man - Mark 30 "Blue Steel" Build (New Torso Complete!)

So ive now pepped all of PepCowBoy's Silver Centurion files - so I had to build a new helmet and neck so the scale would not be off

IMAG0403.jpgIMAG0404.jpg

As you can see the difference is drastic ahaa - The Helmet on the right is a perfect fit for my head - but the helmet on the left is to scale with the suit.

And here is a bust.... (I am still figuring out how to attach the shoulder bells to the shoulder pads)
IMAG0407.jpgIMAG0405.jpgIMAG0406.jpg

Re: Iron Man - Mark 30 "Blue Steel" Build (Full Suit Built!)

Geez you make cardboard look purty. That bust looks amazing by itself!

Re: Iron Man - Mark 30 "Blue Steel" Build (Full Suit Built!)

Thanks laellee :D

So ive now made both helmets - SmookCMb really hooked me up - he must have done about 3 different re-sizes, and added in a few extra bits for me

Ignore any gaps in the helmets as I need to add in a few things (aswell as the eye walls in the movie one)

IMAG0412.jpgIMAG0411.jpgIMAG0413.jpg

(the photo of the game helmet makes it look worse than it is :S dunno why)

In other news ive spent this sunday morning making a Duct Tape Torso - ill do the duct legs separately

Re: Iron Man - Mark 30 "Blue Steel" Build (Both Helmets Added!)

Did you use fibreglass on your helmet? or did you just use and bondo/resin?
and if anyone knows, is this a good resin to get? http://www.smooth-on.com/Urethane-Pl...206/index.html im just trying to find something cheap and is sold near me and thats one of them.

The red helmet has: Fiberglass resin on the inside and outside - then a layer of fiberglass mat - and the half a layer of bondo on the outside... because its not finished ahaa
I cant recommend any smooth-on product as I believe that's American - and im a UKboy :)

ok i just wanted to be sure since someone gave me some bondo and now i just need some resin but i wasnt sure if i needed to use fibreglass or not. I was thinking of just coating the in and outside with resin and then using the bondo on the outisde

Ive built a few helmets in the past and ive found youll need at least 1 layer of fiberglass mat or cloth on the inside. - the first helmet I made ended up becoming misshapen because the resin wasn't strong enough to hold the shape on its own with the bondo ontop of it.

Some people will say youll need 2 or 3 layers of fiberglass on the inside - but you really don't - 1 layer is good, maybe 2 in the small/thin areas - but id really recommend putting down a layer mate
You don't wanna see your hard work ruined, trust ive been there ahaa
