Iron Man Helmet - **FINISHED** 25-07-10 **

the only red thing would be the red primer. nice job. but the line from the faceplate seems to be a bit off compared to the one on the rest of the helmet.

Very nice! And those colours look almost spot on (IMO). Are you going to light the eyes?

I'd deffinitely like to take a look at what's involved in lighting up the eyes. Are there any tutorials on how to light up the eyes?

I bought the paints from Halfords in the UK.

Very nice.

If you want it more glossy, then wet sand the whole helmet with very fine wet and dry, just to flat the surface off, dont press too hard, you just want to smooth the laquer surface out then apply a few more coats of laquer. Then after a few weeks use a rubbing compound and car polish to finish off.

Need to get my hands on an IM helmet............

Cheers. Other than lighting the eyes up if I was going to do anything else/another helmet it would be one I could actually wear. This ones really for display purposes but having see
the finished product it would be cool to have one to wear.

I'm curious, What you just described, does that make it glossy and shiny like a car surface?

Re: Iron Man Helmet - painting WIP *updated 13/07/10*

Hey I sent you a PM about it :) But any putty/drywall mud/bondo/Filler would work since they are small spots :)

Was just going to say the same thing - I use DAP drywall compound and it sands and even more importantly BLENDS as easy as anything out there...

And it bonds well to plastics like that helmet? If that is the case I may try some!

cheers.

i used wet and dry paper to sand it. after each coat of primer i sanded all over until it was really smooth.

to be honest the only regret i have about the helmet is that i bought it as one unit - i now wish I'd have bought it with the back part separate or on a hinge so that I could wear it.

Badboy
Did you cut the "vent" at the top of the helmet out? I have just cut the eyes, but I am also considering the back and faceplate. Do you think this would be a school boy error?!

I didn't cut anything on this helmet - other than the eyes if course.

Personally I would just cut the back part so you can wear it.
