(*ahem*)Can you imagine Propstore or Heritage Auctions behaving this way?
One of things I’ve learned after being involved with this hobby over the years is that even the most devoted SW fans don’t know the details and history of most these props individually.
Even us here following/involved with this thread have our own specific interests and limitations.
I’m not surprised in the least that these “auctions” happen and will unfortunately continue to happen. What I am surprised about though is how something like this that’s so blatantly a lie can get so far. All this back and forth with its authenticity should have been sniffed out LONG before we (the RPF) got ahold of it.
I’ve not followed other auction lies so the frustration level of something like this is new to me. I only wish we could find out who this person was that made this blaster. He clearly purchased all BF parts to put on the Mauser he bought back in the day. He certainly didn’t try that hard to duplicate the real film prop at all so I’m sure he (or she) has trail that could be easily followed. Dude (or dudette) should be shamed publicly for this IMHO..
All the more reason the he/she should be exposedThis is where the (alleged) bribery comes in.
I had to look that up.. might be just a little extremeWould drawing and quartering seem too insensitive?
It’s worth noting that another item in the upcoming auction was, fortunately, pulled at the last minute: a so-called Iron Man 3 helmet allegedly worn by Robert Downey Jr.
Studio Auctions – Iron Man 3 Helmet
There are plenty of replicas of this helmet out there, many designed to look like originals made by Legacy Effects - and this particular one was clearly one of those fakes.
Just last year, a replica Mattel Hoverboard was actually sold through Studio Auctions for $180,000. And yet, despite ongoing publicly voiced concerns about authenticity, we haven’t seen a single public statement from Mr. Teplitsky addressing any of it. Not even a comment on facebook.
Wouldn’t a reputable auction house feel compelled to respond to such serious allegations?
Can you imagine Propstore or Heritage Auctions behaving this way? They’d be out of business in no time.
I've been very patient for quite some time.
It's immensely satisfying to see this discourse, and more people laying hard facts on the table.
I see TONS of questionable modern Star Wars props out there (extras made during/after production, blatant fakes etc) but to try and fake such an iconic prop with tons of period photos and research done on it is a special kind of brazen.
